Battle of the Modern Planars: LCD-X vs PM-1 vs HE-560

Jul 15, 2014 at 11:42 PM Post #46 of 88
I can see a case for keeping things positive overall, but it's taken to the extreme. People are made to feel that they're trolling when they post anything negative, no matter how politely worded. It feels coercive.

This is a major issue that has crept up on Head-Fi...  Even more problematic when you hit a fanboy thread.

One of them happened recently. Just saying.

Just the opposite, actually. Two grown adults who see things differently, maturely stating their opposing viewpoints. TMR can more than handle his own, and I'm sure that when he says he is not above calling out the head-fi community, he is also not above addressing a criticism directed his way.

Umm, I wasn't referring to TMR, dude. I was referring to someone else.

Everything is tame here; all is well.  Just as long as somebody doesn't come in and say I need to burn the headphones in or amp them properly.

You need to burn in the headphones and amp them properly...  :p

You can order either the production or preorder pads from Hifiman.  If you email them they'll ship the 560 stock with either of the pads.

Hi!

It's difficult to compare the LCD-X from when I had it before to after I got it (or a new one?) back.  The sound seemed to be mostly the same, carrying the same u-shape signature with authoritative bass and lower midrange, recessed upper midrange and lower treble, and a bit of an upper treble bump.  It did seem to be more clear and less congested but I can't confirm that.

Either way it's definitely a good sounding headphone, and very spacious sounding to boot.  Just don't consider it reference grade.  It's a good bassy sound though with lots of instrument separation.  The weight is what ultimately puts me off though, making me have to sell it.

I will do some editing of the LCD-X section to update people about the RMA'd LCD-X.  Gotta contact the staff too I never wanted nor told anybody to put this topic in summit-fi...

I always wanted a pair of HiFiman planars and always had an eye for the HE6.  The review is very positive and I am excited to see even more consumer choice to appear at great pricing.

TMRaven, I felt the LCDX hypetrain was very short in duration and that Hifiman perhaps doesnt get the recognition it deserves as a top tier can manufacturer...Nevertheless I feel both manufacturers are of the new breed which constantly seeks feedback and interacts with consumers and continually develop their products.  Both need to be pro active...neither are at the crown....that belongs to the mighty German, and it is the HD800 not the LCDX that reeks of all the negative associations of fanboyism.  Its quite obvious.  I would have agreed with you a couple of years ago....but not right now.

I wonder if Dre created a bubble...I mean in the space of a few years we were headphone starved...the supply side is quite the reverse now.  Now Dre has left us...it will be interesting.
