Hi I am new here and yes I know that the under $200 headphone question has been asked a ton. but I looked at the discussions and cant seem to find what I am looking for.

Here is what my wants/ needs are.

Good for trance/dance music and also for movies.

no IEM

I also need for them to sound good unamped as they will be used exclusively with my laptop and ipod.

I have sennheiser hd 212 but they sound very muddy to me. the bass is overpowering the rest of the music.

would the audio technica a900/ad900/ sennheiser hd598/ denon d1100 be a good choice?

Im open to all suggestions.

thanks for the suggestion, how are they comfort wise. I also want a really comfortable headphone.

I find them fairly comfortable, I'm sure the Audio Technica ATH-AD900 would be a little bit better (I own the AD700s).
But the AD900 cost 4 times as much as the HD-668B
The A900s and HD 598 each cost over three times a much as the HD-668.
The D1100 about 2.5 times as much as the HD-668

The Superlux HD668b are wonderful headphones, they definitely work with any genre, but if you buy them I recommend an amp/dac for them. They definitely benefit, though with a $200 budget you can easily fit one in. Another recommendation from me is the Audio Technica Ad900. They don't have a huge amount of bass, but man they are the most musical headphones I've ever heard.

Edit: I find the Denon D1100 to be a bit too bass heavy for my liking, honestly I wish the D1001 were still around.

how do they compare to the ad700s. I found them on amazon for under $100 and the HD668b for about $65 at headroom. I really want a good sound hp but really dont want to sacrafice comfort for it. that is one of the primary reasons I do not like my sennheiser hd 212s. dou you think the ad700 is good for movies, and dance music?

The K-240MKll are very balanced (studio use). But if you want with a little more bass impact for electronic music, you can try the Ultrasones PL'Pro-650 you can get them used on the FS forum.

I think my AD700s sound good with everything, but are very bass "light".
The ATH-AD700s are very comfortable, easy to wear, very light on the head
The best price for the HD-668B is at Audiohipster ($53), that were I bought my HD-668Bs last week.
Currently the HD-668B are my prefered headphone, the bass seems to be at the level I like.

Well I just ordered the Audio Technica AD700, I did this based on comfort and level of clarity. maybe in the future I will get the superlux. but first I will try to eq the AD700 and maybe add a headphone amp. or DAC. I will right a review based on my impressions of it for dance music once I get them. as that really was not discussed on the treads I looked at.
