Aune S17 pro

I guess in some listings 6se is harder to drive than Raal Ca-1a, anyhow Raal needs usually vol 56 with Aune. Propably this is a current/voltage thing again.p
Peaks at 92 db for my test tracks means programme at high 60's-low 80's. I listen softer than anyone I know. what do you think of the CA-1a? I want one but I need a counter to it like an Auteur since its so detail forward.

I like Ca-1a a lot. At first it sounded somehow wild and a tiny bit fatiguing and so I decided to buy Mitch's neutral filters. With these Ca-1a sounded really good from the first minute. A real surprise was after about three weeks how good they sounded also without filters. A long "getting used to period". Ca-1a also feels very comfortable, also it looks refreshingly different.

Would I be correct to read this as you listen mostly in the 60's to the low 80's and peak at 92 Db's?
For listening to music?

If that is the case, I listen at MUCH lower levels than you.

Or have I misunderstood your post?

No you have it right.. My circle these days is pretty small - 6 - and one fellow is close, and he's an acoustic musician. I'm 67.5 yrs old, I need a bit more now than 20 yrs ago.

I like the CA-1a - more w/ filters. The time I heard w/ the filters was with a Pass Int-25, a DAVE, and DSD256 & 512 files. I've had an ear for ribbon tweeters for 40+ years, so there isn't much to get used to - besides ribbons vs quasi ribbons (I.E. planar magnetics) in the bass/mids. I've never heard any estat speaker (or high end dome tweets) that can keep up with ribbon tweets (even the Chinese ones) over about 5k. The CA-1a is great down to 250-300 Hz range, but the bass reminds me of a muscle tube amp running a big panel estat vs a top SS amp - there is a tonal discontinuity to my ear in the bass->mids and that means the CA-1a is liable to be doing chamber music and female vocals where that won't be as obvious - or maybe I'll get used to it.

Seems like a lot of them for sale right here - unless people are not updating their sales listings... might be a good time for a used set w/ the adapter. But I don't want to get back into computer based audio, so bye bye filters.

Wow! I am just about 64 and my ears get sensitive at anything above 75Db's. And that is the peaks.

Great definition of Ca-1a bass. With the basic Raal cable it's punchy, but the bass articulation and overall quality could be better. To hopefully make bass more articulate and a bit tighter I decided to order Star 8 mkii silver cable. We'll see how it works.
I guess Magna and Immanis makes older model market more vivid with adequate pricings. Often they seem to be packages with transformer.

Actually I realize I pull out the SPL meter when I'm testing bass. Just now two hours of my typical music alone and 78 db was the peak but mostly in the high 50's-mid 60's. So about the same. I have no idea how anyone can listen regularly at over 100 db and still have ears capable of discerning quiet details.

My ears have their own self-defence system built in. If any of my stuff peaks over 75Db's for a fraction of a second I tend to reach for decibel meter and sure enough I am running high and have to dial it down.

Downside of this self defence system, which is like an over protective boyfriend or a helicopter parent, is that it sometimes gets too controlling. Sometimes I will be playing music and I will think, "These headphones and or amp really don't sound that great anymore. Maybe it is time to make some changes to the collection."

Then I will remember my "situation". I will pull out my decibel meter and measure the sound. Lo and behold, my peaks are now at 66-68Db's and I am spending most of my time in the high 50's/low 60's, which is why the music sounds weak, muffled or unclear. And with a twist of the volume knob, I am back to happy town! :L3000:

My whole point was that I am a ***** when it comes to decibels. Shane just can't do the loud stuff.

Temperature update....

Okay, it has been 7 hours 11 minutes. S17 still in 100ma High Gain XLR input and 4 pin XLR output.
Temperature holding steady at 55c with the Room Ambient at 78f (25c). The highest it got was 56c then came back down to 55c.

I am calling this a success. No more temperature issues. If anything changes, I shall let you know... but 55c with a room temperature of 78f (25c) is great in my book.

@Slackaveli the mini cooler link is below for those interested.

Amazon Mini Laptop Cooler URL:

Because I have my fan plugged into a USB Hub that is always on, I just purchased this USB inline switch to allow me to turn off the fans when I don't need them:

Just got the silver S17 Pro I ordered from Amazon today. Using it with my ZMF Autuer and have the amp set to 100ma and high gain. Starting temp was 22C then climbed to 65C after an hour. Luckily, I bought the same cooler you recommended (thank you! and the inline switch was a brilliant idea!) and it brought the temperature down from 65C to 57C in 45 minutes. Ambient temperature is 72F (22C) First impression of the amp is very positive, a noticeably different experience than the Darkvoice 336se I was using for sure.

normal cables. Only I'm afraid because of the dense weaving, they have a high inductance, they will lead to self-excitation of Aune
You are right (in regards to cables from Aliexpress, like Openheart). I previously reported no heat issues in 100mA, but that was in low gain. In high gain the temperature rose to 66 degrees and stabilized. It was highest I've seen so far. That was on the Arya Stealth using a balanced 4.4, 16-core, this one. When I switched to the NDH-30 with the original cable, the temperature dropped to 62 degrees relatively quickly and stayed there. Switching to low gain made no further difference.

Hi all, I am thinking of jumping to S17 Pro train, did anyone try to send 5v signal from DAC to amp using XLR? Does it clip or works perfectly fine?
