Aune S17 pro

The volume does jump at step 56, but not a big deal. Unfortunately, this amp is not really ideal for my 1266 TC and (I assume) HE6/se and Susavara are a no-go. Clipping and distortion in low gain and with high gain, I'm at step 60 out of 63. My Monolith Liquid Platinum does a much better job with the 1266. However, less demanding headphones (including 99% of all other headphones) sound excellent though.

I think that's about your piece and correct behavior should not be of that type. We need more user reports about temperature and switching to 50mA to clear the extent of this issue - if it is rare issue of some units, if it happens often but not with all units or if it is systematic behavior (reviewers did not mention that).
My unit runs at 63C at idle on 100ma with the room at 16C. High or low gain is the same. Sitting on my desk with nothing else near it. It doesn't change much when playing. Maybe 64C. It is sitting all by itself with nothing else near it. The Aune S17 should come with optional tall feet. It will recover to 53C on 50ma after a few minutes and then down to 45C after a few hours. It does sound better on 100ma.

16C sounds awfully cold to me. I am in Canada and aim for 21C.

My HE6se v2 has never sounded better than on the S17 Pro at volume 44. Never experienced clipping or distortion with any headphone on any realistic volume level.

I have a strange problem: The S17 reacts to my TV remote control and Apple TV remote control. When I switch the TV program, the S17 switches volume by 1 quieter or louder, depending on which button I last pressed on the S17's remote control. That is very annoying. Since I use the S17 as a pre with a power amp and the TV sound also goes through it, I will have to send it back. But the s17 sounds extremely good. Hope, it’s a faulty unit and will get a better one. Please try with some remote controls of other devices, if the same problem appears. Thanks.

I think the small and short feet on the S17 (which I guess Aune has used on this case for some time) are a very poor design choice. Even before I got the S17 in, I ordered the tallest adhesive rubber feet I could find on Amazon (.89 inches or 22.6 mm; they came in assorted sizes for about $12) since I planned to stack it on the Denafrips Ares 12th-1. Even if placed directly on a surface, I think the S17 can use more ventilation space than afforded by the stock feet. By touch, the bottom plate appears to be warmest part of the S17; with almost an inch of space above it, the top of the Ares is slightly warm but significantly cooler than the bottom of the S17, so I should be OK. The S17 is otherwise sitting in a completely open space and reaches about 65°C at 35-40 volume in low gain after several hours of operation including 45-60 minutes of warm-up.

I don't have any issues with my s17 pro, the sound is amazing, very warm and detailed
Do you hear an increase in volume with each step up? It’s easiest to notice with white or pink noise playing

You and monkey4054 may use DACs with different voltage level outputs. And then different people listen at different volume levels.
