Hello fellow AA'ers, to combat audiophilia nervosa/upgraditis, what do people think of the strategy of going to hifi shows or meets? Sounds counter-intuitive, as it could only create more wants, but in my experience I can often scratch that itch just by finally getting to hear the gear I've been wondering/obsessing about. Then it's like, "OK, I got the measure of that. File that experience away in my knowledge base. Don't need to own it." Or something like that. (Maybe this has been already mentioned-- haven't worked through all of this this thread yet). Glad to see a continuing serious/humorous tone here. Good to keep things lite, lest we get more obsessive/bonkers than we already are. Or is that "Passionate"?

Once I cover every inch of my desk in audio, I’m done. Now I’m thinking vertically.

Regarding audio gear though, I must say out of all the hobbies I had in the past, I do feel an overwhelming grand sense of being thankful for being able to own audio gear. I mean to use extreme context, lots of people are struggling to put food on the table literally at the moment.

Every time I throw on headphones, I feel like I am about to be transported to heaven on earth and am in for a good time.

Excuse the exaggerations, but that is how the words came out.

Happy listening folks...

That’s great. The only time I get that feeling is on my motorcycle.

What was your longest period of audio contentment? For me, it was when I was just starting out as a young man into audio land, with an Arcam integrated amp, Arcam CD player, Rega turntable, Epos speakers, and best of all, my prized Grado HP1000 headphones (via the integrated amp hp output). Or more likely, my period of greatest contentment was just before I got into gear, and all its attendant obsessiveness, and just focused on the music, and didn't care so much what the gear was. Alas. No going back to the innocence of Eden.

I've been going a little crazy with cables lately. Finally have my DAP, iems, tips, psu, etc down pat. Fine tuning in an attempt to find "that" magical cable. Haha
Can you get your IEM’s made into a custom? Better fit, better isolation, better base, and not having to fool around with finding tips that kind of work.

Cables are the fondant of the audio cake. One must not deny this, it’s necessary process towards nirvana and satiation.
