Lots of cures:

Life changes: getting married, having kids, losing or getting high paid employment, retirement & fixed income to name some.

Then there is the wisdom of experience, the knowledge that one will never be able to play a recording as well as it would sound live.

Those are the "common sense" sorts of things.

Then there is the 'fire'. Have to have it, have to keep up or exceed my friends, satisfy my ego, match the magazines, sites, shops that you pay attention to. Consumerism cubed.

Pretty crazy for me for decades, but, the best real way outside of life changes, was once I got a set-up that I really liked, turn off magazines, dealers, friends, and enjoy it. Also helped that I got into double blind testing which showed that so much of the hype is hype.

Love your comments..been there doing that. Im close these days. Aperio with Innuos NG. Would love a tube set up as well for AB 1266-Immanis? Maybe I'll rest after I check out the WA 33 elite JPS, Innuos, MMT,Lampinzator.... bottom line is your right. Get set up and unplug from the insanity. I think one of the things that fuel a lot of this is the lack of convenient places to audition equipment before you buy etc. Shows are too crazy and dealer network is hit and miss

Absolutely this. I would add that there is a lack of convenient place to audition gear together. Most of the time it's piecemeal, as in the dealer has only 1 of the several options you are evaluating. I used to work in a city where I could get to 5 dealers within a reasonable area so I spent probably few months going around to them fairly frequently trying out different gear and different combination of gear to really drill down my preference - because I simply couldn't hear them all at the same time in the same system.

I would say at least for me there is a threshold for me where more expensive gear doesn't really bring more happiness. Often that threshold can be crossed at a relatively low price level if you know what you are doing and buy used.

Edit: I just did a calculation: my main system digital front end costs me a bit over 9x as much as the digital front end in my desktop system. But if I were to calculate based on their MSRP, it's a bit over 2x. So from actually living with both systems, my desktop system is not that far apart from the main system.

I’m scared sh-less if my dac or my music servers dieded. Upgrade wallet pain will be phenomenal. Need a weed drip after the right finger click. But for now, done like a beautiful brined turkey dinner.

If I were you I would try to listen to some TOTL dacs from a decade or more ago from brands like Wadia, APL, Playback Designs and Emm Labs. You may find that for the same price as a used TT you could get a more dynamic, musical and analog sounding system. At a minimum you have some backup brands in case your TT dies (e.g., supercap goes bad over time).

Stop gap measures, I’m not bummed about TT at all. My gig, if I’m enjoying and it ain’t broke, let it ride. So glad I’m not you. Lol

Yes, earlier when there were more dealers (locally at least) I go the cold shoulder when I got seriously into used equipment. The expectation of spending money is awfully high when you engage on a piece, understandable, but to me off putting.

I know..the curse of listening to too many dac brands over the decades: dCS, Esoteric, Linn, Emm Labs, Playback Designs, Wadia, Weiss, MSB, Ayre, Bricasti, Chord, ML, Sonic Frontier, PSA, Marantz/Soulnote.

Me too dude, thats why you should maybe invest in a mojo 2, it’s cheap, has great sound and is hugely customisable with its lossless eq settings. It’s similar to hugo 2 with it’s always on charge psu, the battery lasts for years since it does trickle charge and is MUCH better than the original mojo at handling power when it comes to its charging circuit.

That would be my advice, buy one of them as you know chords sound and with all the options mojo 2 has, it’s a bargain at less than £400.00

So much so that you might not be able to tell the difference if you have the eq and xphd settings set to your liking.

Just to add, I never thought I had any use for a mojo 2 since I already owned other chord gear and also already having og mojo and poly, when I first got mojo 2 I was hmmm, I prefer the warmer og mojo but, once I got to grips with mojo 2 which took a while, there is no turning back, it really is a bargain at the price they are selling it for.

I quickly escalated to a TOTL setup from my initial moon drop iem and mojo combo. Wasn’t satisfied and kept going.

At this point I’m not too obsessed about upgrading my setup. I do think about source and always wanted to try the Grimm MU1 or something comparable.

I was away from headfi for a while but all of a sudden decided I “needed” a bedside rig and went TT2 + Stealths lol. Listening to it now actually.

Overall I’m happy with what I got but of course I’ll be upgrading things here and there. This forum does cause me to want to upgrade more than if I don’t read it lol.
