Thank you for the information! I have read exactly what you described regarding the AD1000x's in that the AD700x's are actually better suited to gaming because of the type of sound stange. Do you by chance have any recommendations for a strictly gaming headphone that would rival the AD700x's? I am willing to try other brands but I've only tried Audio Technica's so I'm not exactly sure what other options would be well suited for gaming over the AD700x's.
I think a few tears back AT released a couple of “gaming” headphones. People believed that they were just the AD700x with mic (and an increased price).
As far as gaming headphones go, unfortunately they all sound pretty crap to me. They can’t even win in comfort, my AD1000 was the best, my current AD2000 a close second.

I will have the 1000x & have others to compare with, and will see how it holds up.

I see they are Presently going for lower price on Amazon here in US (around $287), so they are price competitive with the senn hd6xx & AKG 7xx models.

Using the AD1000x for gaming tho... I'm not sure I'd like it, IMO it's not really tuned for that usage, especially with the lack of bass..

Ok, although I initially was enthusiastic over this unit , the same old dumb issues appear due to the headband design being poor on smaller heads.

Then we have than lean & bright sound which isnt neutral or balanced.

The only thing it has going for it is its livelyness combined with good detailing.

Overall it is not an ideal signature.
Nice overall, but ca wrong choice of signature IMO.

This type sound only works well with some classical, IMO.

When I had the AD1000x, it had some decent upper bass impact, but very little mid and subbass. Lower midrange was actually full along with the upper midrange and treble, it was not the typical ''lean'' sound with a recessed lower midrange

In a way, Audio Technica's AD1000-2000 is the grado everyone wants to be, if you like early SR60-80-125e's the Audio Technicas is a good step off point rather than trying the exotic models of grados and their funky pads.

I am an owner of an AD1000X, but I never bothered posting here about it. I will say this. For this headphone, it is an absolute must to upgrade to the following pads below.

https://www.amazon.com/BRAINWAVZ-Ve...rds=brainwavz+xl+velour&qid=1576900472&sr=8-3

These pads increase the soundstage and instrument separation, as well as slightly increase the bass. Detail retrieval also improves. The stock pads on the headphone suck, and make the headphone sound worse than it should. As expected as well, the comfort vastly improves with the pad upgrade. With the stock pads, both my ears are pushing against the driver grills, which is just horribly uncomfortable. Audio Technica made a huge mistake with those trash pads. The drivers on the AD1000X and AD2000X are high quality and extremely capable. I ended up using the following EQ on my pair combined with the Brainwavz XL Velour pads at the link.

Pre-Amplifying: - 2

31.5Hz: + 2
40Hz: + 2
50Hz: + 2
63Hz: + 2
80Hz: + 1.5
100Hz: + 1.5
125Hz: + 1
160Hz: + 1
200Hz: + 1
250Hz: + 1
315Hz: + 0.5
400Hz: + 0.5
1kHz: - 0.5
1.25kHz: - 0.5
3.15kHz: + 0.5
4kHz: - 1.5
5kHz: - 0.5
6.3kHz: - 1
8kHz: - 1
10kHz: - 1

Those pads, combined with this EQ, completely takes the AD1000X to an entirely new level sonically. The improvement in sound is just drastic. All of the detail is still there, but the nasal character is gone. The mid treble peak is corrected. Bass extension and impact is correct, and soundstage is improved and correct. The headphone becomes completely neutral in sound. I highly recommend for people to try this. I think you will be amazed at the difference.

its really depend on tuning preference, I've tried changing mine to brainwavz pads, I dont like the change it introduces, also i prefer to keep its unique tuning as i have other gear for daily use
