The price jumps do not seem to reflect natural changes in supply and demand because they are sudden hikes that have a 'floor' price with no organic movement.
I am guessing that Audio Technica is setting new minimum prices for their dealers - possibly because they were far too low, or maybe because they are now aware of international customers purchasing these headphones with mail forwarding services?
Nope. Have you ever been to japan? It probably has to do with their lower end range of headphones being avaible in japan-wide electronic stores for the full price only. The prices you get on kakaku are prices by online shops and speciality stores located in akihabara etc where they get alot of tourists and other bypassers. Japan is very big and in the rest of japan and it's non specialised electronic stores you pay the full price for headphones (same as here in germany btw). These stores also never carry anything higher than the A900x/AD900 line. It's obvious that Audio Technica doesn't want you to buy an A1000x online for the same price as the A900x offline

Hey, I need a new set of headphones and im from Canada. Wondering if theres a way to get the AD700x's shipped to Canada using amazon jp? My local store has them but they're twice as expensive.

You need to get them shipped from amazon japan to tenso, and then pay tenso to ship them to you. Tenso charges approx $40 CN to ship them to Canada. Once you place your order on amazon japan, you'll get your headphones within a week. Tenso takes a few minutes to get setup (and there are plenty of "tips" posts on getting setup), and once done, you're good to go.
Note: you need to supply tenso with a document with your name/address and birthdate on it. I took a photo of my drivers license, and then blacked out everything except my name/address/birthdate, and it was accepted right away.
Humm, wondering it wouldn't be abbettery idea to just get some Ultrasone Pro 550s. Everyone raves about the Technical though :S.

EDIT: Found some locally for 150. Im wondering how these would be for gaming. Im in need of headphones for university, for gaming and for music when im studying.
If you're looking for headphones for university, I assume you don't want your sounds leaking out and your roommates sounds leaking in, so maybe the open back audio technicas aren't great for you? The WS99 from audio technica is also good, though. Doesn't need amp, good bass and sound, works for music and is nice for gaming.
