The L5000 looks like it is essentially a W5000 covered in leather. Further, regarding the fit if the W5000 doesn't fit me will the L5000 also not fit? Can anyone confirm or deny these two questions. Thanks.
Yeah, they have the same "skeleton" or so to say, but beyond that are quite different. L5000 seems like a tank compared to smaller W5000, due to leather everywhere, also on the headband, which internally is probably like W5000 wires, but on the other hand, W5000 with it's minimalistic wires seems very... minimalistic. W5000 is noticeably lighter. Clamping force is smaller. Pads are completely different, W5000 has softer leather, L5000 has more clamping force, is less comfy, and leather pads seems worse (for me).
Also sound wise L5000 is technical killer, but also a bit analytical and bright, not for everybody, with W5000 being warm neutral, forgiving, tuned in a way that you can't say anything bad about it, less brutal, but! technically weak for a flagship.
I just recently bought a L5000. Unfortunately it doesn’t fit me. The top portion of the ear pads are too thin and the headband doesn’t allow for inward adjustment. So I will definitely need a more plush ear pad or I will have to sell. Any ideas? Thanks.
Yes, they will alter the sound slightly, but out of all the pads I have tried so far these are the closest to being tonally balanced without daviating too much from the stock ones.

I replaced my original pads with the velour Brainwavz and they sound and feel amazing although I can’t really compare them with the originals because I never got a good fit. Either way, this is a great option for those who like me can not get a good fit with the originals. Here is a video I found on how to replace them. It was pretty easy.
i accidently saw a brand new L5000 in the local headphone store inside a very popular shopping mall packed with toy shops. struggled for a few minutes, I decided it's justified to buy myself a chilrden's day present during toy shopping trip so here it is
the sound is so much better than AWKT which is a very odd sound signature (I recalled one chinese reviewer commented that AWKT "sounds paper thin" which i can easily echoed ).
despite it's lower sensitivity (100dB/mW vs 102) and similar impedance (45ohm vs 48) compared with AWKT, i needed to dial the volume down a lot using my A90 (at mid gain, 8 o'clock vs 10 o'clock position for AWKT) or the AK CA1000 (at high gain, 62 vs 75 for AWKT). The sound is much more "normal" and sensible than the AWKT. many reviews said it's bass light. I'd call it normal and definitely there's much more bass than AWKT. it sounds more similar to the AWAS and sings sweetly with ACG music collections
But frankly, for sound quality alone, L5000 is not worth such high price. susvara and he1000se are so much more enjoyable (yet cheaper) I found it hard to recommend to anyone if not for the collectible factor. the leather earpad looks similar to AWKT's but feels much smaller and is touching my ears on all sides! feels a bit hot already in this season after an hour listening.
it's the first time I wear wing-pad ATH cans. it feels quite odd and uncomfortable so far. the new suspension headband of ADX5000/AWKT/AWAS is so much better (for my big head!). it's also worth to say that the recent ATH headphones all sound radically different! AWAS/AWKT/ADX5000/L5000 have very little in common in sound signature!
btw, the connolly leather looks and feels high quality. it's extremely difficult to have faultless hide in such light color and i cant spot any imperfection. but it seems no better than that on JLP/EG shoes or even eastman jackets (i could easily buy several pairs of RTW lopez or dover using much more leather and craftsmanship for the price of L5000!). and it lacks the alluring smell of leather (maybe they used chrome tanning?)
