about us$4.2k in my city
Thanks. Not bad I say. The L5K isn’t even available anymore in the US. I used to have the L3000 and really wonder about the L5000. Now I only have the W3000ANV and nothing else ATs.

yes. i've been watching out for L5000 new or used for a while. I saw a listing in japan for over 5k so when I saw this one at a normal price level, I made the decision to go ahead anyway. luckily the sound is quite enjoyable

Can u compare the L3000 to the Denon 9200? I found the 9200 to be excellent drawing. The only draw back is the smallish soundstage but otherwise it’s a really great set of headphones. Do you have the 3000 ANV? How much better is the L5000 to it?

sorry i didnt have L3000 and never listen to it so can't compare the two.

my personal feeling is the d9200 sounds excellent with impactful bass. soundstage a bit smaller than L5000 but it's priced much, much more reasonable than the ATH counterparts (cost me much less than AWKT! it definitely sounds way better than AWKT). it's an easy recommendation for pop music listening if you can wear it comfortably. just the wearing comfort is very low (the headband is pressing against the top of my head no matter how i adjust it). the bamboo cup also looks distinctively less impressive than the beautiful woodworks of ATH.

Thanks. I always love the sound of the Denon D9200. They are super easy to power and sound much better than the Z1R IMO. Thanks for the comparison with the L5000.

I also like the sound of d9200 more then z1r. The low end of z1r seems a bit overwhelming for me and there is less excitement in the treble region. the headband (not sure it's leather or PU) is also not very durable. Sadly mine is cracking and peeling off already with less than 2 years of services. And i quite seldom listen to it . . .

I sold the Z1R because of the boomy bass response. Couldn’t stand it. Treble is a little splashy as well. I auditioned the D9200 in Japan and it was a very musical experience!

Newbie to this thread.. Just got the L5000 (found a pair in new condition)

I'm finding it hard to get a good fit, specifically getting a seal at the top of both ear pads.

Would be grateful for any practical advise how to achieve a good seal on these headphones.. thanks 🙏

lurk online in all possible classified forums, wait patiently, and move fast... patiently can mean many long months (or more)... ;)

I am very sorry, but unfortunately that's how L5000 works :( They are wide headphones made for rather big heads. Audio Technica didn't really test on too may subjects here.

And seal is important for them to get a nice sub-bass. (And they have probably the greatest bass I have heard on headphones, with tactility as if these were not headphones but a real thing i.e. drums).

Switching pads to full leather Brainwavz XL would help for a moment, BUT they get something like +5 dB in treble peaks above and around 10 kHz on them. (Also nice bass but they lose some of their beautiful mids and get U-shaped).

Note: I've done thorough experimenting with many different pads on this model.

Good pads for L5000 would probably need to have the same diameter of the internal cutting (indentation? the place for the ear inside), as this diameter is what probably causes to attenuate specific high frequencies; maybe also along with the pad height, but not so sure about this part.

All the replacement pads I have seen are wider in the internal diameter than original ATH pads. (Including Dekoni; worth trying out but they won't work in the long term - same problem as above with treble peaks).

It is specific for Audio Technicas (all of the woodies) that they were tuned to their specific, original earpads.

Someone in this company knows what he is doing. And - as we may all know - their "ear" person KNOWS midrange. Which can't be said about many other brands.

So unfortunately if they do not fit you, I would rather consider selling them. I'm very sorry :(

Also try the Brainwavz XL Micro Suede for the most comfortable fit

I posted this a few months back when I got mine. I absolutely love these now. My favorite closed back of all time and I have heard most of the TOTL ones:

I replaced my original pads with the velour Brainwavz and they sound and feel amazing although I can’t really compare them with the originals because I never got a good fit. Either way, this is a great option for those who like me can not get a good fit with the originals. Here is a video I found on how to replace them. It was pretty easy.
