I'm looking to do this mod in the next few days. I was wondering about the Open Cell Poly Foam, though. Any kind I find online has the adhesive side to it. Am I supposed to get the kind with the adhesive or is there somewhere I can get the foam without the adhesive?

I got a hold of what I needed. Instead of using masking tape I decided to use some Heat Shrink on the cable. I reinforced the area where the two ends touch with electric tape just to make sure it doesn't tear. Just another option.
 

 

 
 
Certainly a fantastic mod for comfort. I recommend to anyone with an AD700.

Those are amazing... Part of me wishes I had the guts to do something like that with mine. I wonder what the white out would look like with the stock purple grilles.. And you used ethernet cables for the top??

no idea lol, and yeah just ethernet cables, cut em and pulled the wires out then cut them to fit and set em in.
