SA5000 pads are natural leather, what is the problem with them?
CD3000 is vinyl that peels off with age.

Hello Andrew

You are right. I can not compare the pads of the SA5000 and the CD3000
I never owned the CD3000.
With the SA5000 I had problems.
When I bought them (new) one channel didn’t work.
Sony replaced them without any problem.
Then the sound and the fit disappointed me.
Don’t blame Sony! It’s my head.
The new owner is very happy with them.
And I presume: the pads are still beautiful natural leather

Greetings

P.S. I still own those beautiful stands. I have two of them. When Sony replaced the defect SA5000 I got a second one.

Amazon only ships these to Japanese addresses. Seems to be the case with the AT products due to some export issue.

Artmon, have you tried it with other genres of music? It seems you referred specifically to classical only. Also, how about the bass?

I have not had a chance to go in for a second listen, but my first impression really was a 'bass-light' headphone probably geared towards vocals/jazz/classical.

I really wish AT would put out a variation on the L3000.

Well, that sucks. It looks like amazon.co.jp only ships out books, dvds and cds outside of Japan. No go for me...

Bluetin is $793 shipped EMS (wouldn't trust anything less) to the US with the 5.9% paypal fees, which puts me over the full MSRP of $779. I won't pay full price if I can avoid it so I'm going to wait on this one. Audiocubes is gouging...

The pads seem a lot better now that I read about Kuraray and Clarino. Thanks for sharing that bit of info.

Gu Sensei

If I compare the ATH-A2000X to the GS-1000, the ATH2000X (out of the box) is bass-light.
But I think, the GS-1000 is bass-heavy.

I just listened to Saint-Saens’s Organ Symphony and I didn’t miss a note from the organ.
The ATH-A2000X goes deep and precise (after burn-in!)

I listened a while to my wife’s rock music. It sounded acceptable, but I don’t give further impressions, because I have no live reference.

Vocals (in opera etc.) sounded very good; no sibilance.

A short addition about the fit:

I wear glasses.

With the ATH-A2000X and the W5000 I have no problems

Some others do

That is particularly interesting. One the main gripes I had with the W5000 was fit issues - could never achieve a good seal due to the angle of the pads/cups and the overall size.

The AD2000 was a much better fit (for my dome). Have you perhaps tried the AD2000 in terms of fitment?

Regards

I had them on my head briefly again yesterday. Some jazz was playing and they sounded good but still light on the bass. Did not like the fit. A little better than W5000s but not as good as AD2000s. Much closer to W5000s in terms of fit.

Gratz, certainly among the most eye catching beautiful headphones I've seen pictures of.
