Audio-gd NFB-28

Its actually $800+ vs $1300 so the gap is smaller than perceived. Audio-gd don't include the pay pal, & postage costs in the list price - they're added on when paying. Also the $40 TCXO clock upgrade isn't in the $680 either. $40 for an upgrade of the most important part of a dac is a no brainer imo.

Regardless, they are both stellar value - as are Audio-gd & Yulong in general. If u can afford it - go the DA8, if not, your only taking a small (but definitely noticeable) down grade with the 28.

I think we need to consider the different between buying from oversee factory direct vs a local agent, right?

I am interested in NFB-28 vs DA8 as well, I am from Hong Kong so I have the convenient to buy from factory direct in both case.  Here are their price in RMB for comparison purpose:

NFB-28: RMB4680 + RMB120 (TCXO upgrade)
DA8: RMB6680

Anyway, that is RMB1880 (US$300) different, still significant, but given the DA8 support DSD as-is, I think we can compare them head-to-head without paying too much emphasis on the price different !

So to summaries your impression, DA8 is better on DAC and NFB-28 excel on its amplifier section?  In other word, if I have headphone that are easy to drive, DA8 is a better choice, but if I have power hungry cans or something that prefer better control, then NFB-28 is a better candidate?

How does the NFB-28 perform vs a Schiit stack such as Mjolnir + Gungnir?

For me in europe:

NFB-28: 600€
Schiit Stack: 1600€

Both combos are fully balanced, both combos have plenty power (from 8W Rms), low output impedance, etc.

So, considering the difference...

Mjolnir is a very aggressive amp that works best with dark and laid-back headphones, a la HD-650 or Audeze.

The NFB-28 should work better with anything else, IMO.

^^^ feature wise and parts wise Audio-gd is superior (digital relay-based volume pot, R-core, I/Os, single-ended and balanced headphone outputs, ACSS, etc) but that's only half the story. What headphones?

Wooooooops, sorry, Audeze headphones, LCD-2 as my main rig. Following the XC as main closed headphones. Big fan of this brand and planars in general, dont want anything else, not a fan of bright headphones such as t1s or hd800 which ive already tried. I like the TH900 style and so, tho.

I was planing in gettings the stack vs the nfb-28, so if the difference is minimal Ill get the Audio GD, but if the difference is noticeable, dynamics and tightness/impact wise, Ill go for the stack.

Good start for the new year! Perhaps kingwa should let us know the specifications/ supported bit rate first?
Any upgrade path even for current owners of his sabre dacs?
We shall see.

Someone tried the 27 vs this 28? In paper they seem to be fairly simmilar but the 27 costs almost double.

I would be interested to know how you can get the nfb 28 at 600€ in europe (unless you have in mind 720$+shipping and no custom tax). There is a retailer in France but the cost is closer to 750€, shipping included.

Direct buying from AudioGD china via DHL.

Going to pull the trigger on this. Question though: Are there any advantages to using the TCXO-upgraded USB input rather than the optical input? I'm running optical in on my Little Dot stack.
