Audeze Mobius review / impressions

How come the NxWave 3D software from the MObius has more features and options that let you customize compare to the one that they sell on their website for $10?

Also what is the exact planar drivers size for the Mobius? The Hifiman Arya size is 65x100mm
I did a bit of searched and found out the Mobius driver size is 100mm, but is it 65x100mm? or 30x100mm?
Not sure on both counts, but: I believe the Mobius is specially designed to use wavesNX, so it isn't limited by whether you are running wavesNX and it should sound better than other headphones that use wavesNX. BTW the Arya is $1300, and the Mobius is %400, so I wouldn't be surprised if Mobius has a smaller driver size, or if they have the same size but the Arya sounds far better.

Mmm, contact Audeze? Their customer support is incredible.
I did reach out, unfortunately as there were no other known cases they could not provide me a solution .
The truth is I avoid using it nowadays , it’s completely unusable and very disturbing if 3d is turned on . I was hoping someone has seen a similar issue and could help me trouble shoot .

The Mobius driver covers the whole earpad opening.
The full internal size is impossible to tell, but at least more 50mm wide.

Interstingly there are bowed magnets at the sides, probably to maximize the used area.

Finally it's the outcome that matters.

So for the past few months My Mobius has crackles and pops with any 3d mode turned on, Windows 10 on USB 3 primarily, Audeze Asio makes it worse, works fine when 3d disabled and connected with WavesNx software with bt tracker. It's on latest software and firmware. Any thoughts ?
Did you try any other source, even Mobius' analog input?

Likely an USB problem, maybe try an USB-2 port if available.

Certain PC configurations have problems with USB-3 + audio.
Sometimes a PC firmware update helps with that.

I’m using usb-c to usb-c to use 8ch , tried on the motherboard usb-c and the graphics card usb-c input , to rule out motherboard issues. Tried usb-2 and line out from another machine , 3d on = crackles. On iPad Pro usb c 3d on = crackle .
Whatever chip the WavesNX resides on the Mobius seems to be the culprit. Three devices with two OS can’t be wrong . I’ve faced some form of this crackling pretty much from day one .
Now it bothers me as I know it’s not going away. And I can’t use it as a passive headphone because it needs periodic charging

That's not good... Your mobius isn't still under warranty, is it? "Three devices with two OS can’t be wrong" - yep, that eliminates port interference... And this only happens with 3D on?

Filter 23: ON PK Fc 7263 Hz Gain -0.1 dB Q 0.82
Filter 24: ON PK Fc 8116 Hz Gain -1.3 dB Q 3.27
EDIT:
Updated all profiles one last time, uses an altered base frequency response tuned to the F5 firmware update, leaving all profiles more accurate in terms of tuning the Mobius towards the Harman curve. Warm/Warmer is also more custom tuned now, with a slight restoration of 80-300KHz alongside tuning at 1.5KHz and 3.5KHz.
Hi @FireFreak111 are the settings above the last updated ones after your very interesting exchange with @KaiSc ? If they are, am I correct in assuming they're supposed to be used with Default sound profile (since Flat is simply 1dB louder, as mentioned by KaiSC)?

This is the resulting curve I'm seeing in Peace/EqualizerAPO:

While this is with current AutoEQ recommended settings:

Are you sure only -7.5dB preamp is needed with your settings? Looking at the curves I'd be inclined to say more would be needed to avoid clipping.

Edit: I'm starting to think about sending the Mobius to Oratory1990 to solve this once and for all. :-D

Edit 2: Also, I don't get it... here KaiSC shows that there's more bass in FW5 and yet you intervene on bass in a perplexing way (maybe due to my ignorance) when compared to AutoEQ settings, based on Rtings measurements done on October 12th 2018 (and so with an older firmware if I'm not mistaken).

What if your Macbook only supports BT 4.2 - it doesn't have 5.0?

PS The only difference between 4.2 and 5 is range, and both have decent range anyway.

Update on this issue : I contacted tech support, they told me of a procedure to "reset" the headset settings by making it run out of battery than charge it up again. At first, nothing change but after an hour, balance restored completely. It lasted for one or two days, then the problem reappeared and I sent it to RMA (I bought it second-hand but they checked the manufacturing date to see if it was still under warranty). In my case, it definitely couldn't have been within product tolerance, I had to put the left cup almost at double the volume of the right to restore the balance.

That being said, client support from Audeze is amazing : fast answers, super helpful and really good contact.

Follow-up on this : huge kudos to Audeze support. After taking my headphones into RMA without any proof of purchase (they just checked the manufacturing date and saw it was still under warranty), they tested it and decided to send me a new headset. It took a month for my package to get to them (thanks belgian post and usps), then after it arrived it took 15 days for them to decide on a replacement and for the package to arrive to me. It's the best aftersale service I've ever seen.

That's exactly what I mean about better turn around time, as they expand this line of products, I feel the biggest impact for positive will be a center somewhere in the EU to handle these types of RMA. Granted in the time of covid, my headset ALSO took 1+ month to get back to me, and i'm in the USA, so a 15 extra day lag time isn't that bad, but still 42+ days without the headset might be brought down to well under a month with a proper EU RMA center. I agree their customer support are excellent , and I just hope they can expand that properly to the international scene.

Right. Their customer support is amazing, just wish their shipping could be better internationally. OFC, amazin customer support and slow shipping is better than bad customer support and quick shipping.

I think their customer service comes from being a renowned audiophile company - like Sennheiser. And also, audiophile products are built to last generally, and carry repladcement stuff, etc - that could be why they have great customer support.

I wouldn't be so sure, considering gelpads have already disappeared from the market...
