There's no need for the power of the Dark Star, as the LCD-3 is even more efficient than the LCD-2. 
If you want RSA, look at the Apache instead which has a cool preamp.

No matter how transparent and good tonality headphones can bring, the realism of headphones just can't beat speakers, IMO, because of the sound staging. I have yet to try the Smyth Realizer, but so far my experience is that with good source and amp, speakers can really present a live feeling. There are many reviews here stating that you get the feeling that you are there with certain headphones - well you don't, not even close. With speakers you can actually have the feeling that the singer is standing in front of you and sing to you, and this is much better than her singing in your head IMO, although the one who sings in the head may be a better singer.

Haha, I love my speaker rig. However, I personally would'nt say its always better tha headphones. I love the speaker's soundstage, sense of power and  realism. However, I do believe that in their own special way, headphones and iems do offer a very different and special window into the music that is equally enjoyable. I don't have a 009 but I managed to test it side by side with a $50,000 speaker rig and found the stax to have much more detail and clarity as well as better transients.

Yes! You are doing very good guys, as I see we already have 3 threads for the lcd-3, even though it's not been released yet. I'm so excited thinking that when they'll be released I'll have to check 5 threads, at least 20 times a day, to read about everyone's impressions!

Once the LCD-3 is released and we get some actual listening impressions and people going gaga about the new toys the complaints about price should get drowned out.  Unfortunately we've got a couple weeks to go till release.
 
I just decided to put some King Crimson on my morning playlist.
The Power To Believe and Happy With What You Have To Be Happy With
 
Sounds fantastic on my 3 week old LCD-2 rev.2 even with a little Asgard powering them.  Happy.
How can I not be happy when King Crimson sounds like this?  I like.

By the way, do you still use that high-shelving EQ, Ham Sandwich? I tried playing around with your setting and I seem to get the best results when I reduce the gain from +3dB to +2dB.

I'm still doing the shelf EQ.  I'm experimenting with three different levels for the shelf.  1 dB, 1.5 dB and 2 dB.  It depends on the recording.  I've got the King Crimson at +1.5 dB right now.  I'm trying to keep the EQing to a minimum and not get myself addicted to excess boost.  For now the EQ is my cheap amp upgrade till I decide on a more suitable amp.
 
My goal is to get the LCD2 amped and sourced well enough that I don't need to do the shelf EQ.  I know it can be done because I've heard the LCD2 do it.  But that was with a Liquid Fire amp and tricked out SACD player. I need to figure out how to achieve some of that magic for less $.  Not sure if a Lyr will be able to do that or not.  I'm still in look-see mode for amp choices.  I've got The Power To Believe what I want is possible.

These are all relative. I know a Hi-fi friend - every cable in his system is at the same price or much more expensive than the SR009. He never listened to headphones. I suggested him get himself a set of SR009 with Stax amp and after he did, he was very happy. He thanked me and told me it was a "great bargain".

With the greatest respect, it is surely premature to state this as "fact". It hasn't even been released yet, and nor do we have a full scale, in-home review. Once we have a few reviews and in-home impressions from early adopters (not me!!!), we can make a fairer call on this...
