I sent them a customer support ticket yesterday and received a response yesterday. They've offered to send me a replacement pad for the left earpad. It's the one where my ear keeps rubbing against the fazor. Great service!

I have this concern that the earpads are so plush that after a year of use they will collapse and they'll have to be replaced.

I'm sure if they were to keep degrading in quality like that, they'd end up creating some better pads that didn't have that issue. I'm hoping this is just a case of a bad cut of foam or a bad amount of fill in my earcup.

Speaking of the ear pads, has anyone noticed an appreciable difference between the comfort and sound quality of the LCD-X leather ear pads and the microfiber pads?

Not yet, as I haven't swapped my pads around.  I got the -X with leather and ordered a second set of microfiber pads at the same time because I've tried the LCD-2 with both and preferred the microfiber.  The leather ones in the -2s got hot and sweaty too fast.  I haven't had that happen yet with the -X... but it's winter, so who knows. :)

Thanks cizx. I appreciate the input since I'm very close to pulling the trigger on the LCD-X's, and since I've been reading nothing but glowing reviews of these cans, amp and dac sourses not withstanding, the deal is almost a certainty.

Thanks figaro69. I was thinking more of riding a unicycle backwards on a tightrope while simultaneously juggling three tennis balls.

For real neutrality... they need to take this fletcher curve into account..

i guess they should target to compensate the 85-90db curve (limit to fast decay of hearing loss danger) that start between 110db-120db in the low bass and compensate the rest of the curve

I guess linear dsp EQ might be better for the task since it might be complex to absord exactly the right frequencies while letting the other go thru...

i would target a total flat compensation base on the fletcher curve from 20hz to 20kz... with totally flat totally undistorted subbass

Cool.  When do you think your prototype will be done?

I'm sure we're all anxious to hear it.

Figaro - would you recommend for classical music the HD800 or LCD-X?
