I bought my LCD-4 this year, I am the second owner and I have enjoyed it equally with tubes and SS amp.
This headphone's overall tone is a thing of beauty to my ears. I love it and it has been a great investment.

i got the lcd4 could not resist and i am just amazed by it, listening to it at home, and be able to discover it properly, what an amazing headphone, it is simply amazing

now i need a great dac amp, but not tube as i know i will fall into tube rolling and that can mess up my enjoyment

i am thinking violectric 590

so u advise i buy the 550 amp and buy a dac,, any good dac within 2k usd to add on top of 550 , as i do not want over 5k usd on both

I need to sort out the dac amp fast as I have some great headphones
1- LCD 4
2- LCD MX4
3- Hifiman He1000se
4- Hifiman He1000v1
5- denon 9200

plus others, so my quest for a great dac/amp is now top priority, problem is I have to buy blindly, I think I made a mistake selling my chord tt2, but it was not working well with my hifiman he1000se, although I liked the combo but felt it needed something different

and add it to the 550 u mean, would the qutest not be better than hugo2, man I had both as well, but my memory does not save me which was better

U would not believe what i am using now for my lcd4, its the mojo and romi bx2 plus, and I am so amazed, so if that combo can give me this great experience then I think I will be in a bigger treat once I go back full route with desktop gears. On Romi bx2 plus I am barely at 11 o clock on volume, i am aware that getting things loud is not important as much as preserving the sound quality as well, and the bx2 plus is surprising me, i know it is not end game but is surprising, its filling the gap till I figure what to buy

I prefer the H2 simply because it can be used as a stand alone with the volume control but the qutest will do the trick fine

I have the TT2/HMS combo and find the amp section to be okay for the most part. It’s serviceable but I definitely like the TT2 more as a DAC feeding my V281 and soon my Formula S. The HEKse’s out of the V281 is outstanding. I imagine the V550 will be great with them as well.

the 550 sounds like a more powerful, guitar amp with a wider soundstage and given how good the 281 already was sounds marvelous

The Wells Milo has some "tube touch" but is a solid state amp. Tons of power for the LCD-4.

Then there is still over 3k left for the DAC.
Holo Spring 2, Schiit Yggrasil and others sure can Name a few more in that bracket

Is anyone else using PEQ with their LCD-4? I'm currently using Oratory1990's EQ. jaakpasanen has 3 different EQs based on the measurements from innerfidelity, oratory1990, and crinacle. There's a pretty big variety between the 4 - the jaakkopasanen oratory and crinacle are the most similar but they differ quite a bit from Oratory's own EQ. The white lines below are the net EQ from the individual settings.

The peak at 16k+ is what I'm always trying to address using EQ, I can live the rest of it. This was the case with the 4z also. For some genres it's fine but for some electronic music it sounds like excessive 'air' and sounds un-natural. A lot of people claim it doesn't exist but it's obvious to my ears and it always needs addressing.

Maybe because some of us with old ears can't hear frequencies that high anymore
