Thank you for your impressions IAMBLEST you help to make my mind up. I am looking for a portable setup and I think I could use a more neutral headphone my denon 7000 and 7100 got me covered on the bass department

The AMP/DAC would be next on my list. :)
And i would use them almost exclusively with my PC.

Unfortunateley if i order the Oppos from the USA they are almonst exactly the same price after customs and i doubt that Oppo wouldn't provide a proper invoice. Also, i've contacted Oppo about that and if i would order them in the US, i would need to ship them back to the US if something ever happened to them, so i'm not too sure about that :/

Hello from a first time poster! Thank you for a great review. I'm looking to "up my game " in the headphone dept. I started with the p5s and also own the psb 4mu2. I had both of these headphones that you reviewed on my shortlist. Should I go open back el8? Closed pm3 ? I would not like to be too redundant with what I have. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Looking to use mostly at home. I own the oppo ha2 amp/dac. Will hook to it and iPhone and use tidal. Also will hook into a parasound p5 preamp. Rock and blues is what I listen to but also listen to some jazz and classical.
Go easy on a newbie !!

I have heard good stuff about Sennheiser momentum 2, you should go to a M2 thread and read up. I am very tempted by this headphone as well as the Oppo HA-2.

I'm definitely interested in the Oppo after reading this thread. I'm not sure what the purpose of the el8 serves except maybe a poor man's LCD3.

You might be surprised how many people need a poor man's LCD3. I think the el8 is very smart marketing of Audeze, especially considering how favorably it is reviewing next to the lcd3.

I'm wondering if the LCD-3 are $1246 better than the EL-8...

That's always been the case. Lots of money for little gain. Diminishing returns, blah blah.

Wasn't the el8 marketed as a portable? Or was that something started on headfi?

That's the surcharge for putting the letters LCD3 on your signature and headphone list

It's not a poor man's LCD3. The sound signature is very similar and it is much more efficient. They have priced it well.

Haha exactly. The LCD3 is a lot cheaper plus you don't need a powerful and expensive dedicated desktop amp to drive it.

I'd be interested in how they compare against Oppo PM-1.

Just got to try the PM-3 yesterday, and they sounded too closed for my liking. How do the closed-back EL-8s compare to the PM-3 in terms of soundstage and air? Do they sound more open or closed?
