The Oppo by far or the Sine I have a love/hate relationship with the EL8....

The B&w has deeper bass slam and not as fast

Hi - I'm trying to decide between the PM-3s and EL-8Cs. I've auditioned the PM-3, but was only able to audition the open back EL-8s. I need closed backs as will be using them in the office.

Whilst I think the PM-3s are fantastic, I preferred the EL-8s. I found the bass to be more controlled, a little more sparkle in the treble and better clarity overall. Also I found them more comfortable.

I know the sound staging will be smaller in the closed back version and from what I've read the bass will be a bit more forward. Are there any other key differences?

Would it be correct to say that the sound of the closed backs would sit somewhere between the PM-3s and the open backs?

The EL-8 is a fantastic headphone but for some serious quality control issues. I sadly returned mine and went another way.

What do you have in mind? What exactly are the problems? What should I look at (and listen to) when I buy?
