Audeze EL-8 Closed Version Impressions Thread

Got what may be a dumb question but the EL-8s will they eventually make balanced cables like the higher end Audeze's have?   Or are these headphones more geared towards single ended amps?

I believe they already make a balanced cable for the PHA-3/Pono and for the A&K connection. Can't imagine XLR is too far off.

But I would say that the headphones are more "geared" towards single ended amps, just based on how they are marketed and how easy they can be drive. Doesn't mean it won't sound better balanced.

Yeah, that's what my thinking was I was planning on picking up Schiit's Gunjir and MJOLNIR 2 that way when or if that comes I'll be ready!  But none the less Audeze will continue to get more of my business.  Maybe I'll splurge on some LCD-3s one day.

Upgrade headphones before you get gear that nice! Headphones are always most important! Maybe just get a portable rig for now?

Nice case but just too big and bulky for my purposes. Needs to be able to fit in hand luggage, not be hand luggage :)

I figured it might be too large for what you wanted.  Most of my use is for air travel, so it is hand luggage :)

I was looking for something smaller but wasn't able to find anything other than cases barely large enough to hold the headphones without any other gear and the Pelican cases, which are much more boxy than the Ape case.   If you find the "Goldilocks" case, please post back as I wouldn't mind something smaller for shorter trips.

I'm a little confused, the Audeze homepage says that the cable lenght is 2m but all other pages I have visited say that it's 1.2m long. what is it now? hope anyone here can help me out.

There was a lot of discussion starting around January of this year, in this thread:

The original specification was 1.2m, which was too short for home applications. I know Audeze reads these threads, and per the discussion points, subsequently changed the new length to 2m. Here is the post where Audeze changed the length:

Audeze are now selling a case for the EL-8s. Not sure if it is sturdy enough but worth a try.

Very sturdy and holds the EL-8 snug. I got mine last week.

Audeze's website seems a bit lacking in the photo department. Would you mind posting some? I'd love to see a bit more of what it looks like...

I'd feel a little odd taking pictures around the office. But now that it's portable

I'll take it home with me tonight and post some pictures.

Here goes:

One comment regarding the last picture - you cannot see it, but the mesh part which holds the cables sits snug against the felt background. It is like a velcro connection. And the headphones are extremely snug
