Astell&Kern new flagship A&Ultima SP2000
Jun 21, 2021 at 10:31 AM Post #4,966 of 5,840
Hello,

Anyone knows if it is possible for sp2000 to use the latest features of lossless and Dolby atmos music from Apple Music? I find AM is the most convenient and cost-efficient solution to enjoy high-quality music. Hope someone could inform me if A&K has a schedule to bring this to its products.

Thank you.
Apple Music Lossless is not available yet for Android devices. The latest official release of the app, 3.5.0 does not support lossless audio. There are plans to support Apple Music lossless audio when it becomes available.

Apple has already said Dolby Atmos and spatial audio will not be available on Android-based devices.

Latest update should have fixed any issues with the SP2000 running Apple Music 3.5.0 and support 3.6.0 when it is released.
Thanks! That is good news. I just tried on my Kann Alpha and I can now log into my Apple Music account

I’m curious if there are folks here who ended up using their SP2k exclusively rather than opting for a dedicated desktop setup. I have a great desktop setup but find that I’m not hearing much of a difference (if any) when switching between setups. Has anyone else here considered moving away from a larger desktop rig to using just the SP2k (or actually done so)?

Yeap - on my desktop rig I have Auralic G2, Chord Dave & Graham Slee Ultra. I can tell you the SP2K does a few things better and in most days I find myself grabbing the SP2K as its so convenient!

I went from a complete high-end system with Susvara headphones to the SP1K + amplifier, then SP2K, but with headphones such as the jomo flamenco or the infinity MK2 and especially the vision ears Erlkönig black and also excellent cables.
And, for sedentary wifi listening :
-I missed nothing : the listening quality, the streaming...
-Everything was easier for me: listening wherever I wanted, using roon....
Unfortunately, my hearing deteriorated a few months ago and I have to prefer connected speakers, which makes my Erlkönig available for sale.

An unlikely sweet spot for linn S3 to shine with sp2000 but I think for the room dimensions I finally cracked perfect mono all in one solution until I can afford borresson 05 humboldt and decent turntable. Probably after I’m dead

Early morning listening with the SP2000Cu, amplified by the PhatLab Chimera and listening off the Focal Utopia, TianWaiTian cables by CEMA store. The cables are an alloy of copper, silver, palladium and gold. What I am pleased about the Chimera is that there is a choice of SS or tube, and it remains cool to the touch. :)
Hi, the connect you are using, is that 2.5 to 2.5 and is it stock cable that comes with the amp

From what I was told by our dev team, Roon Ready devices will send announcements at regular intervals over the network when the device is turned on to advertise itself to Roon Core that it is ready to accept audio playback. Since the device remains active, it does not go into proper sleep or shutdown automatically. He only way to make sure the player properly shuts down or sleeps is to turn Roon Ready off.
I believe this is the case with any Roon Ready device and part of the Roon implementation, not just an AK thing. I know other devices from Chord also have the Roon Ready toggle. I am not sure if they go into sleep or hibernate when not being used or also continuously broadcast themselves also. Maybe someone with a Mojo or other Chord device can add some additional info for those devices,

With some pairings, the SP2K (in my opinion) sounds as good if not better than many a several thousand dollar desktop rig.

Take the SP2K with the Trailii. Sometimes I prefer the Utopia. But unless I plug in the TT2 I enjoy the IEM’s out of the SP2K the most. Short story, the overall output from the dac/amp implementation in the SP2K is technically excellent provided you like the AKM4499 and AK house sound.
