There's always at least one person who says "I wonder how it compares to the Hugo 2?"

Today, I will be that person! :)

I have an amped AK380 which I love, and didn't notice a massive difference between it and the SP1000. So... I wonder how the SP2000 compares to the Hugo 2.

Wife's off clothes and bag shopping tomorrow, looks like a good time to hit the hifi shops in her absence !
By wife you mean the one wearing the pants ?

No, she can drop £5000 on bags and clothes quite easily but doesn't understand the finer points of what's different between players and why I can spend hours going between different sets of players and head gear. Just easier to split up for a few hours and meet later, you cannot rush these things !

If you want to meet for a beer on Sunday, let me know...

You should go all in! Don't you want to know if the SP2K as a transport to the Hugo 2 sounds better than the SP1K as a transport? How about SS versus CU?

Except... 2.5mm was never a standard in the actual sense of the word (not designed and recognized to spec, but is just a hacked connector for all intents and purposes).

And 4.4 isn't proprietary to Sony, and is actually an open standard backed by research conducted with JEITA, an actual electronics standards body, hence lots of people who are not Sony using it now.

Is this really news to you?

Meanwhile over here in SEA, I've had several friends have issues with their 2.5 plugs failing/getting compromised by use as it's quite fragile. But I'm sure that's anecdotal, so it's neither here nor there.

This is actually good, I may support AK in the future, but as of now, no plans to do so.
+1 here that would have bought a 2000 if it had 4.4

Maybe a 90 degree angle plug out of 2.5 would put less mechanical stress on the jack?

I still don't understand what the big freaking deal is about plug sizes.

4.4 is thicker and longer. Hope that answered your question.

very excited to see SP2000 and the new AMP. Quick question would the SP2000drive HD800S? My 380 and amp on high are no problem with the HD800s, but the 380 by itself does not really have the power. HD800S have a balance cable
yes. We are demoing the SP2000 here in Munich with the HD800s. No issues at all driving them. On the loud show floor, it was plenty loud for me around 105 volume. Turned it up to 110 and that was about over where I thought it was comfortable listening for me. There was still plenty to go to turn it up even more.

Was there any more info made available regarding a specific release date for the SP2000?

Thanks!
Still saying July. My guess would be shipping around the 2nd week of July and in dealer stock by 3 - 4 week of July. Once I hear a more solid date, I will share.

So its more stable? Is that the idea?

Metaphorically speaking yes. I refrain from how I really wanted to answer that out of fear of getting banned.
