Well it fails compared to the old sp1000 , sp1000 + amp , Cowon Pleneu L , and Hugo 1 and 2.

Because this is still entry level one for AK. Just with high power but on SQ this is not their flagship.
Hugo family - not a DAP. I finally sold mine Hugo2 and stayed with KANN. Why? Cause for standalone set got something better and for semi-portable I was mad about setting up Hugo2 with some source.
KANN CUBE sounds worse but still really, really good so I dumped Hugo2. Just a matter of choices.

I don't expect it to be better than the hugo2 (if that is your preferred style).
But having demoed the Cube last week against the sp1000 (at around twice the price) for my focal spirit pro and se846 then i agree with The Dude re your definitive views

Just curious why you’re comparing the CUBE against products that are between 33% and 286% more expensive (and units that aren’t even DAPs). By that same token, have you compared it against $500-700 units as well?

Of course not, that doesn’t fit your narrative. Because you don’t like it hardly makes it a “fail.”

Of course not, that doesn’t fit your narrative. Because you don’t like it hardly makes it a “fail.”

One can compare any price level. Say you going to take one on the go , then I can chose between a 1000 USD dap to a 500 USD or a 3500 USD dap. I liked the Cowon L which has the same dac in the Cube , price was not a concern. I still like the DX100 and Cowon Pleneu M2 which are cheap.

There are plenty of Cubes for sale, various vendors. Also, I am sure you will find one used...go ahead get an A&K...feel the love
