Astell & Kern Junior (AK Jr.) Impressions Thread

You're right. The thing is that I'm loking for my father, not for my self.
Oppo pm3 probably sounds good with any dap although k10 is something that I couldn't afford even for my self.

I think for orthodynamic headphones the SONY MDR Z7's are a real winner, especially with the ak jr.
I think you could get them for 500$ US now. It's a steal if ya ask me.

I have absolutely nothing but good things to to say about the pairing. Definitely a match. :)

have been hesitant with most people saying it has a buggi  Is the UI really that bad?  Thanks.

The 2 types of lag I've experienced thus far is
1: the scrolling. U have to hold it down for a Sec or so before scrolling through the playlist otherwise it will register a tap instead of a quick scroll.

2:a 0.5second or lesser delay going back and forth between folders, depending on how many albums u have.

Another great pairing and major love of my life right now. This is great for the streets.
The amp in the Mofi's that is built in works beautifully with an added bass boost (6db) If you want it, but I recommend it for most electronic music. It's fantastic and affordable.
The Mofi's only go for 450$ CAN. Worth it.

I have the Jr. and Mofi as well.

Agreed, a great combo and one of simplest pairings out there.

Jr. has enough power for most tracks but the Mofi's built-in amp and boost are nice when needed. Mofis have a bit too much clamp force for me though (even on lowest setting) so I don't use them as much but still a good match.

Hey guys, I have some questions: can you change the names of the albums in the album section? I have one album listed Unknown, and would prefer to have the correct name listed. Also is there a way to put art next to the albums in the album section? I have art for the individual songs, not the albums themselves.

I don't think you are able to change the album name from the device itself. I also have an unknown album and it is because of the sample songs that comes with the AK Jr.

I use iTunes to edit the meta info, hence my albums and songs have album arts shown in the device. If you change the album info for the unknown song, it will show correctly in the device.

Is there any other way to edit the meta info? Say, using dBpoweramp? I just tried ripping 'Home' from Rudimental and the name comes up with '1', which clearly isn't right.

Messaged their "marketing manager" on Facebook and got a response that they won't be releasing any new firmware (which contradicts what the previous contact with their official A&K Facebook says).  I tend to think they won't be updating it anyways other wise it would be a perfect DAP with its size and sound quality.

Kudos! At least we got an answer.

It's very confusing when one representative says an update will be coming soon and another says no. I'm thinking if they have an internal communication problem or the representative that said "No updates" just don't give a damn.

Anyways, let's hope they'll find a way to release the firmware update soon.

Thanx Naut!

Gents. I think we will get the goods. It's needed!!!
It's pretty buggy but I am just so in love with that SQ! The DAC is just amazing. It over takes feelings of frustration when sometimes I turn the volume attenuator DOWN and all the it shoots UP to Max (75)!!! Dangerous indeed, so now anytime I'm on the go I pause my music first then change the volume.
Forgivable....for now.

I can't believe how simple and great sounding it gr8soundz. ;)
You are right, but I gotta say and make it clear that the sony MDR z7 slays the Mofi's and is a better pairing. Treats the highs far better and the bass tightness is far more refined and less bloomy.
Anyhow. Both are great but made for different types of travel for sure.

I am loving this thing and the amount of comments I get when I pull it out of my jacket is hilarious. :)
Got a nice case for it too! My AK is dressed for the streets. Lol.
