The newer devices have octa-core CPUs which work well with a number of the streaming apps and provide a quick and fluid UI experience. We could bring the updated version of Android, new UI and OpenAPK service to the older players, but feel it would provide a sub-par experience which we do not want to do.

Our main mission has always been and always will be to provide the best playback possible of high-resolution content and we feel streaming services are not there yet to do that, so while we are offering the new service to customers with newer devices to have more choices and options, we will mainly continue to focus on high-res playback of content on all of our devices, both new and previous generations.

Well my vote is to bring at the very minimum Deezer streaming to these 'older' models, as well as MQA and Roon support.

Got 'Damaged SD Card' message again today - Sandisk 256. That's the 2nd time this has happened. I didn't format either Sandisk card as they work straight out of the box - believe they're pre-formatted Fat32. This is a real pain - the cards only seem to last about a year before they get 'damaged'.

I guess they want to be formatted ex-fat for faster loading searching etc... so this might be playing into your problem . My cards are fat-32 as well but useless as it takes 5 min to load anything . Too lazy to take them out and go through the process of formatting loading of music again . I’ll probably get the errors you are having soon enough .

The same thing happened to me last week with a SanDisk 400gb card, which I had been using for a few months.

Afaik SanDisk cards are always pre-formatted as ExFat. I found some free trial software (by EaseUS) to format the 400gb card into Fat32.
It works fine now, but fingers crossed that there will be no 'damaged card' messages in the future.

We recommend formatting all cards as FAT32 for best results.
From page574 - should format FAT32.

I always thought Sandisk were fine straight out of the box - AK recommend them - never had any problems with read time - almost instant on my player.

Just really disappointing this is the 2nd card failure in about a year.

Amazon have refunded for both cards - I didn't try repairing them.

Will maybe try Toshiba as suggested - do they do a 400Gb card - can only see up to 128Gb on Amazon?

I believe Sandisk does not format them as FAT32 anymore and they come formatted as ExFAT out of the box, at least anything over 64GB. We recommend reformatting them as FAT32 for best results.

Thanks Jason - I'll do this in future and keep my fingers crossed.

Hi,

Newbie here, was hoping for some advice on my AK380, the headphone jack is playing up and will only play sound out of one headphone, if I apply pressure to the connection I can get sound from both sides. Its not the headphones as I have tried others. It like the connectors are spring loaded and a spring has gone. I've had the AK380 since April last year so warranty repair is out. Does anyone know if this can be repaired or how to fix? I am based in the UK. It would be a shame if this is not fixable as the device is excellent but I wouldn't allow myself to buy another Astell if they fail so easily. It's also not dirt related, the inside of the jack is spotless.

Cheers
Brad

@drofdfarb Sorry to hear about the trouble. For the UK, our authorized service center is in Germany. You can reach out to your local dealer to initiate service, or reach out to our EU service center directly. Hi,

Thanks for the official response, I have reached out to the shop who said to drop it off and they will deal with it. That's great news. I actually opened a ticket on the astell and kern website but didn't get a response, guess this forum is the place to be :)

There are a couple of things you can do to get round this - buy the amp for £400 (recommended) or get a balanced 2.5mm cable (makes a +ve difference) - will cost a bit but how much is repair?
(assuming you're not already using the amp or the 2.5mm)
