Now available:
AK380 Stainless Steel Package!

The new Limited Edition AK380 Stainless Steel Package has arrived and is shipping now. Get it while you can! Only 30 units available in North America.

found this in my inbox so....looks like its ready to ship.

I got the same email (even though I'm in the UK) and when I looked at the photos it looks as though there is a quite nice case included. Not leather, but looks as though it fits the player with the amp attached.

@xxx1313 what shall we do now?
IMO copper remains best of all.

Yes, the copper is still king.

Sony or AK?

  There is no Sony Copper?

The NW-WM1z has a copper chassis so this adds a little more validity to chassis materials. However, Sony goes further and upgrades wires and caps whereas AK uses the same PCB for all their chassis.

Sound quality aside, I decided to stay with AK instead of Sony because of the following:

  1. Sony UI is not as refined and mature as AK. I know they will get there, but I don't have the patience to wait.
  2. New 4.4mm balanced port - while this is a superior connector, all of my cables are terminated for 2.5mm AK.
  3. Sony does not have wifi, so no streaming, no DLNA capability.
  4. Sony does not have a DAC mode
  5. Sony uses a proprietary cable for charging and data xfer. I have too many cables as it is.

I'm sure the sound quality is top notch and the Sony is certainly a better priced TOTL DAP.

Thanks I forgot about the copper, I have both and they are both very good.

That's some serious $$$ hardware! You could theoretically stack the AK380CU in DAC mode with the 1z as transport! Why? Well, because you can LOL!
