. I asked - they laughed.

Was it a type of fun type of laugh that indicates "you are just being silly" or
Was it a maniacal laugh that indicates "muhahaha I will get another $1000 from you"?

Was it an evil laugh?
A cautious laugh, I'd say. I thought it sounded very, very good through the balanced AK T5p...with or without SS. These guys are serious - one of the best stands on the show. Loved the Jnr through AK Ed 5s as well. Sony? How the mighty have fallen.

Since you were there & you managed to ask that qns, you should share your initial impressions of the AK380 over here. :)
I wouldn't dare attempt to draw any meaningful conclusions - too noisy and unfamiliar pgm material. Aesthetically it develops the AK240 form very successfully - a little larger, bigger screen, 3400mAh over the 240's 3250. Crucially, to my eye at least, the whole appearance is more balanced and less lopsided than the 240. The plug in amp is awesome design - adios Hugo, rubber bands and awkward cabling. Different DACs; AKM4490 instead of Cirrus 4398.

Very, very good?

Could you elaborate a little bit more on that? :)

I've only had it 3 days, so not done burning it in. Straight out of the box, it sounded very good. Nice separation, a bit more bass than the 240. Feels great in my hand, amazing battery life. Amp section not quite as strong as the 240, but acceptable. Great detail retrieval.

On par with Lotoo PAW Gold for example? It averages 11-12 hours at least, from what I could read.

I guess I misunderstood your post, it seemed like you weren't enjoying the zx2, as in Sony were the mighty that were falling.
fallen in the sense that Sony were nowhere to be seen, sadly given the amount of effort they've put into hi-res and 2ch audio lately.
