I have not had a chance to hear it yet. Hoping to get my hands on one soon. The announcement for the SE180 states:
"TERATON ALPHA Audio Technology from Astell&Kern"
And
"Next Generation Astell&Kern AMP Technology"
And
"From the selection of OP-AMP parts, to circuit design, board layout and tuning, everything has been completely redesigned to produce the best sound"
Do you think the SQ of the SE180 will be on par or surpass the older SP2000?
JasonNYC - Have you had a chance to hear the SE180 yet?

Dude that's progress and SP2000 has been out for a good while so what to expect? If you want to avoid such situations best to buy earlier in the cycle. Same as my M1 MacBook Pro a new design model will very likely be released this year; it wont by default render my Mac defunct of diminish the enjoyment of using it, nor it's longevity. It will be a huge slap in tha face to sp2000 owners, specially for the new owners who just got it.
Unplug your phones from the AK 2000 and then re-insert.A bit off topic but hoping JasonNYC or another A&K expert can help. My SP2000 does not output volume with DSD files. The files show they are playing but no volume comes out to the IEM's. If I switch to a file other than DSD everything works. I've attached two photos showing DSD files that have the issue. I'm guessing there is a setting I'm missing.
I appreciate anyone who can help with the information on this.
Thanks,
Ken
That's the ticket. Thanks so much for the tip.Unplug your phones from the AK 2000 and then re-insert.
Not sure. I have yet to see or try out the player myself. Let me ask.I've taken a break from AK ownership since SP1000 due to the following features I want. It seems SE180 has included some of these:
@JasonNYC can you let me know if SE180 includes the last 2 features?
- 4.4mm output - yes
- BT receive mode - yes
- Sort by album artist - ??
- > 4 dB limit for EQ/PEQ - ??

I don't know if it was the adapter or if you would need to do the unplug/replug without an adapter as well when switching to a DSD file. I just took the advice raelamb provided and it worked. I don't have a cable with me to plug directly into the SP2000 to check it now but can this weekend. Was the adapter causing the issue? I order the same adapter will do the test if it happens to me as well
I think at a certain level, the sound isn't better but different. People have different tastes and preferences. I like the modular approach to the SE180 with different DAC-types that present the sound differently. I'm contemplating getting one even though I already enjoy the SP1K w/Roon...yikes...It will be a huge slap in tha face to sp2000 owners, specially for the new owners who just got it.
