Interested in the SE180 but will be really exited if/when a class-a amp/module will be released...

Lots of advertisements surrounding DAPs are about DACs whereas the biggest and best improvements I personally heard seem to come from the amp section (think Calyx M, Dethonray DTR1).

@JasonNYC does the SE180 support 5 GHz Wi-Fi and Roon?
No 5ghz Wi-Fi and currently no Roon support. It may/may not get Roon support in a future firmware update, but as of now, there is no additional info available regarding potential Roon support on the SE180.

Probably also no Info available about R2R based DAC Boards or tube based amp boards (korg nutube for example)

Not sure. All we have been told so far if anyone asks, in addition to the default ESS module that comes with the SE180 and the optional AKM module being launched now, there is a third module being released in the second half of 2021 and the 4th module will be released in the 1st half of 2022. Once more info is available, we will share.

I will pass on both suggestions of a R2R and tube-based modules.

No 5Ghz, no Roon, maybe Induction charging? First dap with this technology on the world :wink:
From what I have been told, the induction charging loop that would need to be included in the player to wirelessly charge could cause potential issues with noise or interference, even if properly shielded.

Don't care about induction charging. All I care about is ROON-ready and modules that have tube/NOS DAC chips. This is a DAP, not a phone. :L3000:

Are there any limitations of the 2.4Ghz WiFi? It seems the SE180's competition all can do 5Ghz. I assume the wireless data transfer would be the superior way to move files, but as far as streaming goes, can the 2.4Ghz keep up?

@JasonNYC

I know there was talk about ROON, and wanted to propose an idea about that. Because of the SE180's BT Connect (RX Mode/BT Sink), one can use their smartphone as the starting source.... Would anything be stopping one to use ROON on the smartphone and use BT Connect with the SE180 this way? Or would one have to use something like USB Audio Player Pro in order to effectively send Hi-Res files? Is ROON capable of this?
