Also, I've actually haven't read much about the durability/care required to maintain the electrostats. Can anyone enlighten me with that?

I have a SRX-1 Mk2 from the 1970s and it sound wonderful with my T1S. My T1S is from the 90s. I just sold a SRM-1 from the 80s that sounded great as well. It still is in transit from what I can tell, Tony. So I don't think reliability has been much of a problem with most units. I am sure some problems crop up as with everything.

The Lambda is very nice indeed, I prefer it to the Pro bias 303 or 404. So yes, it's entirely possible to get some very nice Stax gear pretty cheaply.

How do you guys convince the Yahoo Japan Auction to ship outside the country??? Every single listing I saw clearly indicated that they would not ship out of country.

You need to use a deputy service and pay their extra fees.

I've always wanted to go stax but haven't gotten around to it yet. still messing with dynamics since I'm still appreciating the hd600s right now. The time will come when I'll get a 3050 system or an O2. The biggest thing for me is that I dont really like spending more than 800 dollars without being able to hear them first. Its hard to do that where I live. I always have the feeling that getting a low end stax will be half ass and that I should go to the o2 directly when I have the chance unless I get to hear and like the 303.

A company who have specialized to be a middle man between a seller who don't want to ship abroad, and you as a customer. They buy the item and it shipped to them, then ship it further out to you. For a fee that is.

One of them is Rinkya

well i compared the denon d5000 through a valve amp to a stax 3030 system yesterday and gosh. the denon was balanced across the board and articulate detailed ect. but when you put on the stax you realise how plasticy and artificial the denons are. the stax are more airy, smooth, quick and refined than the denons. the difference is pretty big to me.

as for the prices. the denons were 1500aud (no amp) and the stax system was 2000aud.

I'm very sorry for you, as you paid 1500 AUD for something like the D5000.
