I had a senior moment and used the KB8 firmware on the KB8P. It actually did it. Potentially suggesting the only difference between them is firmware.

I thought I might have fried my KB8P... and it kind of looked that way because after a first flash of the correct fw, it showed up as being device v0.0. I ran the right fw again and this time it was all ok. Listening to it now to see if I experience any issues from longer term listening.

I don't desperately need the mic functionality. So, I don't intend to test this just now.

Can you now set it more than 16/48?

I could always set it to 24/96. I don’t have a KB8 anymore to see if it can be made a KB8P by doing what I did.

Do you have a KB8? If someone with a KB8 could try applying the firmware for the KB8P, they’d find out.

What would be good is if this firmware works on the USB-C and Lightning devices I have. I’ll give it a go later.

Chipset specifications of the Creative BT-W4 have been released.
If you look at the reviews, you can choose the USB output 24bit 96kHz.

I can show the same with the KB9P but there is no way to know if the Bluetooth is transmitting in 24/96, that only proves the Dongle is 24/96 to the PC through USB and will still show that for a pair of earbuds that are 24/48 if you leave the Windows Audio setting 24/96.

From that I would say over Bluetooth it is 24/48 but if you plug in wired earbuds, it is 24/96 and it is not the first to mislead with that choice of set up.

Reading through this thread and appreciate opinions on whether to try to purchase or wait. Using the new Senn MTW3’s with iPhone 12 Pro. Sound quality is already much crisper, better than my MW08’s were, but wondering if switching to a aptX adaptive dongle will be a noticeable improvement. I’ll admit, this is an area I have limited understanding.

Well even though Apple implement AAC better on their devices (closed eco system) than Android so it sounds ok, it is not as good as aptX or aptX HD so going aptX Adaptive will be similar to aptX HD.

I was impressed with Amazon Music HD using the MTW3's paired with the KB9P Dongle.

They say it takes a level of training of your ears to get to notice the difference but aptX Adaptive should definitely be capturing more information than you’ll be getting with AAC. So, in theory, it has to have better detail. Whether that makes a difference, ends up being a very personal thing. I just go by the numbers and will avoid listening to AAC with my iPhone.

These 24-bit 96KHz adapters are quite cheap. So, not a great loss if you struggle to hear the difference. The challenge is having the right adapters for iPhone. There is one straight to lightning adapter but it’s still quite expensive. Close to £40 I think. The USB-A ones are roughly £15. Third party lightning-to-USB-A worked best for me because they don’t limit the current. Apple’s own adapter didn’t work because the Bluetooth adapter wanted more current. You lose the ability to manage your headphones while listening via the Bluetooth adapter but it’s a small price to pay in my opinion. i rarely need to manage mine. Only when there’s a new firmware update and such like.

Thanks for responses to my question above. Should I go ahead and try the KB9P or wait for Creative BT-W4 to become available in the US? I’m not worried about cost, but both ease in setting up on iPhone and updating future firmware (I don’t own a window device if that’s the only way to update the device).

I'd say it's a budget-based decision... BUT note that the KB9P should be outputting 96KHz over Bluetooth whereas the BT-W4 only goes up to 48KHz. Any original content with above 48KHz would be downsampled on the BT-W4. The BT-W4 will probably be around US$50. The KB9P is about US$20. Only get the KB9P if you want/need the 3.5 aux input. Otherwise the KB8P is the way to go.
