I have the HE-400 yes.  With the velour pads, the fit's a bit more finicky than the Denons, but your ears will never once get sweaty.  Not to mention the sound will most likely be an upgrade in all areas.  DT990's bass doesn't extend as well as the Denons but the planar magnetics are closer in extension because of their massive drivers.

I received the HD600 and they're like the DT990 Pro's but the highs don't hurt my ears... they are so good! As soon as the memorial day weekend is over, I'll order the HE-400 and try them out. Thank you!

I always thought the 990dts had way more bass than the hd 600s with adequate amping. With stellar amping, well then your getting better bass with the hd600 probably. Not more but it gets firm and strong. Hd600s with cardas cables and a cary 300sei is still one of my favorite setups. I mean it hung in there with MDR-10s with that amp... Beyers sounded like crap on the cary, but sounded good on my ha-2 (wheatfield) once I got a good rectifier.

The HD 600 is not really a step up, but more of a lat move unless you have a serious amp. Then it pulls away, but your better off getting a t1 or something as it will be cheaper than paying all that coin for an amp of that caliber. You know like a sr-71 or corda with a t1 for $1400 or cary amp for $2800 (or $4k).

You could try a WA3 to amp. Get some decent tubes and it gets to be a sweet setup. Maybe recable as well. Send it off to somebody like moon audio. Refine the highs, tighten up the bass, bring out the mids.  Cables to headphones have a much bigger effect than do interconnects or speaker cable does to full size stuff.  YMMV.

Have a good one.
