Anyone tried K702 with Moon Audio Silver Dragon V3 , or any silver cable?

Thanks Drew for your input.

I'm not sure if I'm a detail freak yet. I have tried copper cable (not sliver plated), and frankly I was hopping for more on the details and better higher frequency. I wish to hear on the other extreme end (silver) to get the impression.

Thanks for the great advice. Yup I will get a slightly longer cable, if I confirmed my preference I might re-cable the wire again, with split mode, rather than going through that Tini Q-G and headband. Otherwise I will leave them as it is, so I can switch around the cables according to my mood :)

Maybe its possible to make 2 permenant connectors on each end of the phone for split mode so I can still switch around, but its beyond my current skill at this moment, and could not find the right mounting for 702. :)

I would go with the Black Dragon V2 and not the Silver Dragon V3 unless you are a detail freak. The K701 is a pretty neutral phone and is light in the bass region as well somewhat thin sounding to me. AKG uses the platted headband as the conductor to get the signal from left to right. Yuck. I would recommend doing a split mod. All of this provides more balance, a fuller sound and better low end.
We always tie the shield and both ground conductors at the 1/4" unless requested otherwise. Shield is not tied at the headphone end.

Rather than doing a full split mod - has anyone run a new wire across the headband (not sure the best way to do this) to carry the signal across? That still gives you the single mini-xlr entry point from the main cable (and you could hardwire the leads internally) ...

Might have to look at the exploded diagram and see if there is an easy way to trace those leads across.

Its possible, but you might need to drill more than 1 hole, and find a way to hide the cable....

Maybe someone did it nicely :)

I was thinking a full length sheath along one of the top wires - just a single hole at the top of each cup, to thread it out...

Let me get the "new phones smell" off of these, and then I'll break out the dremel. :D

I think this will be the most appropriate way to do the dual entry modifications, http://www.moon-audio.com/headphones/akg-headphones/akg-k702.html# Here is the second option, http://www.head-fi.org/t/475270/diy-k702-dual-entry-nucleotide-cable

depending on the size of the wire there, might be enough room at the rod exit from the cup to wrap one wire around each headband pole to get to the other side. So no hole is needed at the top. But doing a split mod is more comfortable than a single entry cable in my opinion. The stock cable, because it is cheap and uses more rubber than wire and lack of shielding, is supper flexible. So it is not bothersome in a single entry connection. But when you go to any upgrade cable that has an improved cable geometry, the cable becomes less flexible. And I find having the less flexible cable laying against one's shoulder less comfortable than a split mod where the 2 legs of the Y are flexible. It's an ergonomic thing.

You could always do our detachable mod.

That mod looks nice. Since I don't have easy access to replacement earcup pieces, aestheically, I think preserving the mini-xlr is still the way to go.

Drew's websites sure shows a very beutiful pictures! Looks like I have a few connectors for my preference... LCD-2? HD650? HD800? :D

Then I can use the same aftermarket cable for all my headphones :)

The Mini female 3 pin XLRs are to big to put in the cup however I do have left over XLR cups that where removed from modded K702 I can sell. How ever because it is not center orientated the connection on 1 side would look different from the other.

There are no HD650 female connector options in the market place. So ax that one.

The female HD800 plug will be very hard to get. I dont stock these. But might in the future.

Sorry to thread hijack; how much would one of these cost.  I might be interested in recabling my k702s into dual mono, and sell my SE equipment, and not having to drill my own hole would make it much easier (the mini xlrs would be mirrored right?).  On this note this is what 6 moons had to say about the balanced version of K702s which I seem to notice in the K340s as well.  No longer did I listen to the bright, forward AKG sound, but rather a very detailed laid back sound with strong bass punch and control.

6moons:
"The first one and most often voiced criticism of the AKG [701] is its relative lack of bass (or its extremely tight bass depending on your optics and preferences). Balanced operation was able to extract much deeper bass from the K701 without losing grip or control over it. There was simply a far more physical feeling to the lower registers, probably still insufficient to satisfy a bass hound but certainly enough to satisfy anybody feeling the AKGs to be just a little lean and dry in the lower octaves, without going overboard and becoming loose or wobbly."

The AKG K-702 XLR cups are made only for the left side, my guess is if you put the left XLR cup on the right side this will pull the headphones out of the center of your head...and that can be a weird feeling.

BTW... I like your work, and I think you got a great mod for the 702's dual entry, but now with the new Q series maybe will be worth to make a plastic mold of the K-702 right side with the right angle as the original left side.

The AKG XLR cup would be $25. It is 2 pieces. Send in your left cups and I will give a $10 credit.
