Android phones and USB DACs

The USB Audio Recorder PRO music player can only play WAV/FLAC/OGG/AIFF.
I have some MP3 files, I convert them to FLAC using foobar2000.

You waste a lot of disk space converting from mp3 to FLAC. Converting to OGG would make more sense.

Not much point in that tbh.  Should of ripped them to FLAC in the first place from the original source.  You can't add quality.  It should go CD>Flac>mp3

^ Yep. I'm sure he knows that though. And to be fair, if disk space is not a concern at all, converting to lossless is the only way to ensure you don't lose additional information converting to another lossy format. For most people, out of the formats USB Audio Recorder Pro supports, OGG Vorbis is probably the best bet.

I don't have the CD library to convert to FLAC, that is why I asked. I guess I should try rooting it... though I have no knowledge of how to do so. Anyone have any useful pointers for me? Thanks...

Ah, ok.

Question about my Nexus 7 (2013). If I want to use it with a DAC such as the E18 I have to use USB Audio Recorder PRO, correct? But what if all my music isn't FLAC and I sometimes like streaming music on Spotify, Does this mean I have to root it in order to get audio out via USB without the app?

Hello,
I don't understand why you need USB audio recorder pro with the e18 ? For me the interest or this dac is to work with all USB otg devices without any specific driver contrary to other dac like e17 or e07. Because with my nexus7 or my nexus4 i can already use it with USB audio recorder pro.
Otherwise what would be the interest of the e18 ?!

Try this guide here:-

I tried that guide but on the 2013 the settings are different. For instance there are no "deleloper settings" from step 1

Using your dac/amp, with youtube or any other streaming music service would not work right? .
You must have the files on your phone and play them thru audio recorder pro ?

(ordering a pico next week for my note 2).

Correct, you cant even browse the web or access any other apps. USB Recorder Pro must stay on the front display in order for it to work.

That is why im looking into rooting
