Android phones and USB DACs

I just loaded a rooted and slightly modded version of the leaked JB TouchWiz ROM on my S3 and it's playing out to my Intruder like a charm. It's a shame to give up CM10 for this goofy Samsung stuff, but I'll take what I can get for now!

I'm aware of that, but since they're releasing JB anytime now, i have good hopes it will work.

As far as I know, a stock or custom Galaxy S2 can’t work with any USB DAC for the time being.

This is the main reason why I haven't sold off my S2 and bought an S3 just yet. I am waiting to see if the S2 with JB will support USB audio. I had to force myself out of the habit of searching for software updates every day hehe. Well, here's hoping.

According to the developer of a custom USB audio out & in, "If you buy a new phone, don't buy a Samsung Galaxy S2, that's quite clear from my testers. Samsung delibaretely disabled USB for most types of devices including audio on their S1 and S2's."

Maybe we need to start a fresh thread? The information on the Lindy cables has been posted half a dozen times now, and new comers are making other threads/posts here asking whether this or that amp will work with their S3 when that information is available every 2-3 pages of this thread thanks to DanBa.

Perhaps a new thread with a few very detailed posts summing our knowledge at the very beginning?

Or just create a new entry in the wiki section with all the USB dac info from Danba.

you could also update the 1st post with danba's and and add"read 1st post" to the title.

also for short micro to mini otg, maybe if enough people ask ibasso to sell the 1 bundled with d12. they will start sell them separately on their website.

It should support all the DACs listed as confirmed here with the regular International one (and probably the international S3 also).

For anyone wanting confirmation about the Hakshop cable and the Leckteron UHA-6S.MKII - it works of course. Just got my Leckterton today, early impressions favourable.

In complete silence and amp's volume zeroed, are you getting any hiss like sound or interference between the phone and amp?usb connected.

Samsung's Galaxy Note 10.1 is fit for The Queen:

A list of standard USB DAC reportedly interworking with an Android-powered tablet Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1:

stock Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 > digital USB audio out >> USB OTG cable (micro-A plug inserted in the Note 10.1) >> standard USB DAC >> amp >> headphones

So far, like the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Note II, the Galaxy Note 10.1 can’t work with the FiiO E10.

So, in regard to standard USB audio, the behaviour of the Galaxy Note 10.1 is likely identical to the behaviour of the Galaxy S III / Galaxy Note II.

Nope, no noise whatsoever. If the hiss was very high pitched I may not be able to hear it with my little bit of high frequency hearing loss though.

Hmm.... Got my Lindy USB OTG Micro A to Mini B cable (No. 31960) today. It does not plug into my Meizu MX... specifically stated in its specs as a USB OTG device and used as such in a few Chinese demos (example). Picture time.

The white cable is the USB OTG cable that came with the phone. The black cable is the Lindy cable. Clearly different geometries for the plug; the Lindy cable only partially enters the phone's USB port where the white cable plugs in neatly. Tomorrow I'm going to try plugging it into a Galaxy S3 and Note 2, but I'm not holding my breath. I think I'll be returning these.

Looks like a micro USB Type A plug with the square corners, needs to be a Type B plug like the one on top that you've shown.

Yep, I see that now.

Do Mini A plugs fit into Mini B ports? This picture makes me think they do.

Lindy's only OTG cable with a Micro B plug also has a Mini A plug. It's pretty clear that a Mini B plug would not fit into a Mini A port, but the reverse looks like it's possible. If so, I have a viable option for replacement (31805). If not... damn. Screwed.
