When the issue "Enable USB audio" got 1000 votes, I asked Jean-Baptiste Queru, a Google engineer responsible for most technical aspects of the Android Open-Source Project, to review this well-starred issue.
 
His reply is:
“If someone submits code to implement that feature, it'll eventually get looked at."
 
I plan to trigger him again when a kernel modder will successfully enable USB audio on the Google Galaxy Nexus.
 
I hope we will create a big buzz on this upcoming modded USB audio enabling event.

Ask him to look at the Archos G9 open source code, they've had support for this since last December.

Been following all the Samsung Galaxy SIII news lately.  It's apparently going to have the Exynos 4412 quad-core chipset which apparently natively supports USB-host modes. Unfortunately the US bound SGIII is getting the dual-core Snapdragon chipset...

I'd be very surprised if all versions of the S3 didn't support USB OTG/Host. 
 
That said support for it in the current version of the Android operating system does not assure it, for example the One X does NOT have it. Moral of the story the OEM still needs to add support at the kernel level.
 
Also, don't be confused here - if the S3 supports USB Host (I'm 99% certain it will) that is not synonomous with USB DAC support which it is unlikely to have.

I believe that the CM9 team is planning on implementing USB DAC support eventually.  But as the previous poster eluded, I think it would require a custom kernel.
 
It's not yet working on the 4/19/12 build I have running on my Note.

Like the overwhelming majority of factory or stock Android devices, with the exception of the Archos G9 tablet and the developer-targeted Texas Instruments Blaze tablet, the factory Linux-powered Logitech Squeezebox Touch does not support USB DACs.
 
The USB audio is enabled manually on Squeezebox Touch:

The latest method uses an applet which allows a custom kernel to be installed and provides menus to select the audio output device.
This custom kernel can support 24-bit/192KHz USB DACs. It can also support asynchronous USB DACs which sound theoretically better than the legacy adaptive USB DACs.
