Android phones and USB DACs

A case like a Roxfit flip book case helps protect the USB cover.

When closed the flap is encased the 'spine' of the case but is cut away at the top to allow access to the USB post.

Thanks for the advice, sure it works, but definitely not my style...

However now I'm thinking to buy a good DAP with usb-DAC mode, and probably sell my others portable DAC/Amp

I used a Galaxy S3 in my previous portable setup + extDAC. Months ago I switched my phone with an Xperia Z1C and the micro usb ports is not appropriate to be used all the day with a plug inserted; this because the Z1C have a plastic cover for waterproofing on the micro usb port that may break in a pocket...so I moved back to my clip zip...

I have seen the Redmi 2, is might be good price-quality, only too big...for the same price or less I could get a fiio x1 or an used fiio x3-I and probably it's a better choice..I have not decided yet

I just set up a android rig : Meizu m2 (the 5inch version), Fiio E18 and Fiio EX1 for all under USD275 sounds amazing!

I use Samsung S3 on Android 5.1.1 (CM 12.1) with Chord Mojo.
It works fine with the Onkyo App (which has custom USB Audio driver similar to USN Audio Player Pro).
I cannot however mak it work with any standard music apps (Tidal, Rocekt Plyer etc.)
This atricle:
http://www.extreamsd.com/USBAudioRecorderPRO/Android5USB.html
suggests it should be possible since Google added USB audio driver to Android 5.
Any idea what may the problem?

There are three ways to use the Tidal music streaming service with an Android device at least:

1. TIDAL music player & native USB audio
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aspiro.tidal&hl=fr

Like the stock music player or other generic music players (Spotify, YouTube, BubbleUPnP, Kodi, Poweramp …), the TIDAL music player uses the native USB audio service.
As the USB specification allows some variability and some Android USB audio implementations are in their infancy, a given native USB audio is or isn’t compatible with a given USB DAC.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3XYy1FuzDUea3U3aTJ1RkpQdW8/edit?pli=1

Apparently the native USB audio of the Galaxy S3 can’t work with the Chord Mojo.
Apparently the native USB audio of the Galaxy Note4 can work with the Chord Mojo (i.e. the TIDAL music player running on the Galaxy Note4 is fully functional).
"Works with Note 4 here, I always power on USB DACs and attach to the OTG cable before connecting to Android devices. It upsamples in apps that don't provide their own USB audio drivers though, but then I only need UAPP, so no problem for my use."
http://www.head-fi.org/t/784602/chord-mojo-the-official-thread-read-the-first-post-for-updated-info/4065#post_12055086

It is worth noting that the third-party USB audio driver of UAPP (USB Audio Player PRO) is compatible with the Chord Mojo.

2. TIDAL music streaming service & USB Audio Player PRO
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.extreamsd.usbaudioplayerpro&hl=fr

The latest version 2.2.5 of UAPP with Tidal API support allows to access to the Tidal music streaming service.

3. TIDAL music streaming service & UPnP/DLNA with BubbleUPnP & USB Audio Player PRO (UAPP):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bubblesoft.android.bubbleupnp.unlocker&hl=fr

The UPnP/DLNA media controller performs actions to create a link between the UPnP/DLNA media server and UPnP/DLNA media renderer enabling the UPnP/DLNA media renderer to playback the selected media stored on the UPnP/DLNA media server.

UPnP/DLNA media controller: UAPP
UPnP/DLNA media server: BubbleUPnP with Tidal API support + Tidal music streaming servers on the cloud
UPnP/DLNA media renderer: UAPP

It is worth noting that BubbleUPnP also allows to access to the hi-res featured Qobuz music streaming service and the Google Play Music streaming service for the time being.

Good post DanBa. I've previously used the BubbleUPnP method (I think I might have been the first to describe that method, from memory), but that has been thoroughly superceded for me by the latest UAPP update and I would recommend that now. For those using Google Music or Qobuz, obviously BubbleUPnP remains the option.

I am not sure if this has been reported or said but I am currently facing issues with Hiby running with Ibasso D-zero MKII. I store my music files in a flash drive and use an OTG hub to simultaneously connect the DAC and the flash drive. Some files on the drive when played clips. I mean, it's distorted in some sort of it somewhat stop-play in a really fast manner. Also, there are times that Hiby take a long time to play the next song. Takes from 5-15 seconds time interval but without the DAC, I don't face any issue. Any thoughts?

I figured this would be the best place for this...

For anybody needing OTG cables for USB Type-C phones (Nexus 6P/5X, OnePlus Two), I bought the cables below and used all of them successfully with my Nexus 6P to Schiit Bifrost Multibit (USB-B), Schiit Modi 2 Uber (USB-B), JDS Labs C5D (Mini-B), and an LG G4 (Micro-B).  I don't recommend trying to use any of them for charging from legacy devices as they don't adhere to power specs per Google (see reviews) but they're less than half the price of any other reputable options I've seen.

Thanks for the info, especially regarding the 6P. I'm hoping to find a short, pocketable C to micro B. So far I've seen nothing.

I use Qobuz that's why I still stay on BubbleUPnP version 2.4.0 (I still have the APK 2.4.0) with this version I can sill use UAPP + Qobuz, works fine, with newer versions of BubbleUPnP (2.4.1+) the Qobuz streaming to UAPP don't work anymore.

Here is a piece of news: HibyMusic 2.1 is coming soon!

( The logo has some slight changes. Have you noticed?)

Maybe some new comers are unfamiliar with HibyMusic.

Its main features:
1) DSD support.
2) Net driver (Dropbox/DLNA/LAN) support.
3) External USB DAC is supported with DoP output.

Here is a link for more reference: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hiby.music&hl=en

BTW, which new features would you like to see in HibyMusic 2.1?
