Where have you seen any specific reference to that?

I have only seen where LG states the player app was completely rewritten to avoid all layers of Android audio processing, which to me would indicate there is no down sampling occurring. But I don't know that for sure, simply that I've seen no specific reference to the contrary.

tomorrow I am going to confirm it 100% by doing the following:

original music player (play 24/96 file) --> G2 (OTG) --> USB/SPDIF converter ---> DAC(support 16/44 only)

if sound come out from speakers then Android Audio processing down sample the signal.

now I explain why I suspect OS down sampling regardless above test:

when you play 24/96 file by G2 music player, you can hear the music coming out of USB DAC, but in addition you will hear the OS sound and additional application sound like GPS and etc...
this mean Andorind mixer (AudioFling) is in use and as far as I know it is working at 16/44.
in order to support native sample rate of 96 or 192 and  simultaneously play  multiple streams , some down/up sample has to be done.
the question is how it is implemented = probably by Android mixer...

S/PDIF converter work the same way as USB DAC (on the digital aspect), it just bypass the digital signal instead of converting it.
the phone is unable to sense the DAC , since the USB converter support 24/192 and this is the only option the phone can sense. (anyway I will make sure 96 is bypassed with "USB PRO PLAYER").

the DAC is a car processor capable of CD quality only.

this test will give us better understanding..

I will, however I will need to properly sit down and compare them. That may take a couple of days between work and the twins (3 months old now) and organising NZs first headphone meet and maybe landing the clinical director job and thus even more work

Proceed at your leasure NZ.  As a fellow parent of twins, I completely understand.  Mine are almost four now, but I remember all of the exhausting details of their first six months.  Actually, a good portable rig was essential to help escape occasionally.

Which S/PDIF converter do you have?
I can try the V-Link 192 but I don't know if it will draw too much power.

The FiiO E18 is a portable USB DAC/Amp that happens to have a coax SPDIF output. It draws no power from the phone's USB OTG. I've tested it driving a Bifrost Uber DAC as well as Focusrite DAC/ADC, etc device. It worked driving both DACs while connected to a GS3.

I am using super high end converter name Audiophilleo (with pure power)  -

little bit expensive but worth the money. highly recommended!

you can use USB Hub or Y-OTG with external power input

Hey all!

Fiio E18 just came in, very happy with the sound with my ES3X. Only thing is..

When I play a track on my (Google Edition) GS4 (On 4.3) through USB, the seekbar just zips through every track - no matter what app I use to play music. When playing video files, it's like they are on "fast forward" with no audio playing.

Any ideas?

Worth noting, the E18 play/pause/skip track functions work perfectly, as well as the charge function (when on charge mode).

Thanks guys.

Edit: sometimes the notification bar swaps between "USB device connected" and "USB device disconnected" rapidly.

I can't seem to  find any discussion of this anywhere in the thread, but has anyone tried the original Galaxy Note phone with any DAC using UARP/UAPP? I actually have the S3 and using it as a digital transport with my reference system, but my brother upgraded to the 5S last year and his Note has been in his drawer since. He's gonna give me the phone for free, so I was thinking if it works using UAPP I can get a dock for it too and permanently use that one with my system instead. The S3 will basically be completely just a phone (unless I have to charge the Note; I have spare batteries for the S3), while the Note will be on the dock when I listen then I'll take it out and use it for browsing the internet when I don't need a computer and keyboard for what I'm looking at (like 9Gag and Cracked before I sleep).

Try swapping the cable. I had a similar problem, there was some dirt in the connection causing the USB connection to rapidly switch on and off, just putting the cable in and out a few times solved my issue.

According to the UAPP/UARP web site, only the Galaxy Note 1 I717 can work with a UAPP/UARP-compliant USB DAC [probably thanks to its functional USB host feature].

Another data point for DanBa to add to his list.

Asus Memo Pad FHD 10 (ME302C) with stock Android 4.3 ROM & kernel (build JSS15Q.US_epad-V5.0.16-20140226)

Fiio E07k: does NOT work with PowerAmp or Google Music player.

Fiio E17: does NOT work with PowerAmp or Google Music player.
UAPP WORKS with both DACs
