An Interview With John Grado

Aug 24, 2005 at 7:09 PM Post #316 of 485
But... but... Mr. John Grado MUST talk to Circuit City and Best Buy this time! Can you imagine what a monumental flop it would be if a Sony Streetstyle-priced headphone were to sell only in audiophile shops and online orders? Perhaps that's why the SR40s failed too, they weren't marketed in the right place! (and yes you need marketing for such a mass market product)

hi Zanth,

you probably know by now, how much we appreciate this effort. Its amazing you could recall so much from a loooooong conversation, and yet put it in words so well.
Regarding Alessandros, so I guess all that speculation about the MS-1 being based on the SR 125 is not true huh? they have nothing/very little to do with the grados????
either ways, I dont care.... I'm from India, and a friend has purchased the MS-1 for me. It'll be shipped to me very shortly

Yep apparently our guesses about it being "based" on the SR125 or any other particular Grado can, then just "tweaked," was wrong lol. John just builds up the MS-1 from scratch according to how Alessandro wanted it to be voiced, so it's like a whole different can. Pretty cool!

Great read!

I love my SR60's! For some reason the HD600's have not been in use as much as the Grado's. For that reason I have ordered the HF-1 to experience the Gradosound on a higher level

I've just gotten around to reading this. Thank you very much, Zanth and John. It was nice to get a view into the everydays of John, it makes me want those new grados that much more.
It would also appear that somebody was watching this thread and liked the idea of the Head-fi grados, or we have some very lucky members. I think this gesture shows more of the humanity of Grado that the interview revealed. Brought me with it.
Zanth, the form was great, do lot listen to the naysayers. A transcript would have been more bulky, and you might not have chatted so freely with him if you had prewritten questions and a recorder running.
