An exploration of Chord DAVE, MScaler, Qutest, and Holo May, HQPlayer

I will be placing an order for a Holo May KTE as a new addition for my headphone system that’s not on a desk but on a rack with wheels beside my lazy boy .,...
Over the last few months I’ve had a few dacs and servers / streamers including a borrowed Denafrips Terminator mentioned a few times in this thread .
My current dac with my headphone system I felt outperformed the Denafrips with a more natural sounding and unforced presentation , I tried my best to like the Terminator however it just didn’t do it for me .

Anyway I’m confident by all reports the May KTE will be a nice upgrade .

Lovely setup!
I'd be curious to hear your thoughts about the hydra vox.
I like the look of the hydra hub quite a lot too

TLDR: He says your Holo May DAC sounds no different than 200$ delta sigma DAC.

I saw the video, I speak to zeos semi-regularly and have been his patron for years. (he actually mentioned me briefly near the beginning of the vid)

He feels that all dacs sound the same, I don't find that to be the case at all.

People have different hearing, just how it is.

GoldenOne If that what the guy thinks , that’s what he thinks , laugh and move on ,,..
The Hydra Vox is a great performing dac , I was first made aware of AudioByte last year over a online purchase with pick up , long story short I ended up borrowing a couple components to try in my system and the AudioByte Vox was one of those components, a few days later I placed an order .
The Vox performs above its retail price terminating the Terminator , PS Audio Dac senior and a couple other dacs that are enthusiastically gushed over online .

I guess I wasted my money! Should listen to the God. If I ever ran into him there would be two hits. He found his niche of people that bought him that nice house.

I agree wholeheartedly. I appreciate Zeo's opinion the same as I appreciate everyone else's...but I appreciate and listen to my own far more.

Seems similar to the age-old argument about cables.

I clearly hear a difference between all my DACs. TT2 has a boost in bass vs a more neutral lively sound of Manhattan 2. Holographic presentation is almost the same but the Manhattan is my favorite of the two.
There are so many headfiers that do not believe in higher end aka higher priced audio. They just can not justify the price ZEOS is a fine example which is fine but to make videos and spread false information like this I ended my patrion to him.
Not to mention so many YouTubers that review higher end gear for the first time like the recent $6k Hifiman Susvara’s with $200-500 DAC’s and HEADPHONE AMPS and say it’s not good. That is like buying a race car but it sucks because the only money you have left for tires were these street $50 Ford Pinto tires so this race car sucks and not worth it.

I’m completely knew to using headphones and it’s only been a few months belonging to Headfi however reading through some of the threads it apparently obvious sound quality of playback isn’t a goal for some and your right about the wrong mix of putting things together like the Susvaras with inexpensive mediocre components .
I saw one member with $15,000 plus tied up in headphones alone and a number of headphone amplifiers my first thoughts what is the guy looking for?
Anyway the manufacturers love these guys of course especially the flavour of the month club members constantly flipping through equipment ,... I know one thing for sure the high retail price of anything in this hobby is no guidance to quality of performance you have to learn or just know what your listening to.

He's is looking for whatever he wants. In my opinion, that is the hidden beauty of this hobby; it is deeply personal and personally customizable. It's so rare to find a hobby like that...

That said, it's pretty obvious that guy has tumbled down a serious rabbit hole (or a series of them) :)
