I envisioned buying a pair of AUDE'ZEs LCD-2 for my AMB Beta22 but am now wondering if it is such a good idea should I perhaps buy something else?

perhaps you could tell us what about the LCD-2 sound signature has you turned off?  from there, we can make suggestions. 
 
otherwise, your question could be worded as: "what are your favorite headphones?", since the B22 sounds good with everything

Nothing about the LCD-2 headphones has put me off as of yet -- I haven't listened to them.
 
Just some readers' threads about quality control.
 
Is it necessary to worry about what people with so called experience say? I think so, but would you try change my mind. Perhaps it's personal preferance that varies from person to person.

I can vouch that the B22+LCD2 is a fantastic combo. Mine is 3 channel but I imagine it sounds pretty much the same.
