Is anyone using an USB to COAX/i2s converter for their Metrum DAC? I have the USB Menuet (comes up as Hiface Evo 2 on the mac). I was thinking of getting an USB converter to input Coax into the menuet. Worthwhile upgrade? The Menuet via USB does keep dropping lock everytime I turn off the computer. I have to restart the DAC as well.

You could look at the Denafrips Iris DDC, which will do what you need. The reviews are excellent and it's (relatively) inexpensive.

Interestingly, I had been using a Metrum Flint (with upgrade) for a few years and decided to upgrade to a Denafrips Pontus II. The Pontus II is an improvement in every technical area (detail, soundstage, imaging) … but I don’t know, I think I enjoyed listening to my system more when the Flint was in place.

I felt the same going from a flint to a Topping D70S. Came back to a Metrum Menuet and I am happy again.

I think the Onyx is calling out to you.

In case anyone wants Metrum Onyx with I2S module in US then do let me know. I have moved to Sonnet Pasithea and hence I can part my ways with Onyx. One of the best at its price point.

Onyx might be calling… or maybe Pavane.

Its quite strange actually - I can’t figure out the exact quality of the Flint that is missing. Honestly, there is no world where the Pontus II isn’t a clear upgrade. And I do have a highly resolving system (Roon > Auralic Aries Streamer > Pontus II > Elekit 8600S > Coherent Audio 12). Its also very clear that the Pontus II is a better DAC, as I said, an upgrade in every area that I could put into words. But my partner remarked ‘you‘ve been listening to your hifi less lately’ and they are not wrong.

Have a friend in Thailand looking to sell his Black L3 Pavane, which has been upgraded with DAC TWO Mods. If of interest PM me and I can put you in touch.

How does Onyx compare to Pasithea? Much in it?

Onyx to Morpheuus would be a better comparison obviously.

So just got an email from Metrum about upgrading my Menuet from DAC1 to DAC3 chips. Unfortunately it needs to be sent to the Netherlands for the modifications. €850 all up including the chips. Shipping would be about €200 up there and back.

I absolutely love the sound from the DAC 1 chips. I know technically it might not be the best, but it is so engaging. Am I gonna lose this with the DAC3 chips? And are the differences between the chips that huge?

Or just look for a used Pavane/Morpheus and sell the Menuet?
