Perhaps there isn't any DAC with USB functionality for that price.

There are several USB DACs at that price. The Behringer Ucontrol comes to mind. $30. I don't think you are getting any recommendations as most people would not invest in multiple DACs in that price range in order to do a fair A / B comparison.

I own the Lynx2 B PC sound card that has 2 analog
XLR inputs and 6 analog XLR outputs as well as
a daughter board for AES/EBU digital interface. i did
a search using the word "Lynx" in this thread and
did not get a match.
Why is this system not considered a DAC
like M-audio and other copmuter cards?

It is used to measure the jitter on other cards and
almost 50% percent of cd recordings world wide were
mastered using this system. It is approximately
1500 $.

What is the point in using dacs costing
upwards of 5 to 30 times the price to listen to
music mastered on a 1500$ system?

I am not sarcastic. Please explain what am i not
understanding and please suggest links to related
material explaining digital to analog conversion
mysteries.

I also have another question. It is my experience
that the transport is of a much greater significance
something that simply does not make sense.

i say this having tried Teac and Wadia systems
with various DACs and compared them to systems
that buffer the data into memory as the Meridian
and having experienced far greater performance
from Teac transports regardless of DAC used than
other systems.

@kintsaki.
1. Probably because nobody have made the OP aware of the device.
2. Some (I would guess most) music are mastered on a way more expensive system than $1500.

On another note. You may find a different source for discussing "digital to analog conversion mysteries". Or search the forum..

Most of the ones I know around that price range pretty much revolve around the same pcm270* chip. (hotusb1, Alien, Bantam, Keces da-151, Firestone FubarII, etc).

As for me, I'm looking forward to building the Y1(gamma1) dac and Bantam DAC when it gets released(likely very soon). The prices are estimated to be around $120 and $70 respectively. I'm sure you can get someone to build you one if DIY doesn't suit your fancy.

Granodemostasa,

Thank you very much for the effort put into
setting up this list and supporting this thread.
Please check the Lynx2 B product and if you
feel it meets the requirements to be considered
as a dac decide whether you would like to iclude
it in your Comprehensive list.
Once again thanks for a great contribution!
