also... my friend will be buying akg k-44 despite people saying it has muddy bass... whats your take on it??

AKG K44 is only really good when you EQ down it's bloated bass. I only liked it when doing this. I bought my pair at a local Guitar Center when they had a $30 sale on them. Well worth it.

I guess I should rephrase my opinion on the Superlux HD-668Bs.
I did a fresh comparison with the DT-770 250-Ohm and the HD-668Bs.
Should be saying the HD-668Bs are about 80% as good as sound wise as the DT-770 Pro 250-Ohm.
The low price I paid for the HD-668Bs was clouding my judgement (money does strange things to people).
Shipping stuff to and from India for maybe having to return stuff damaged during shipping and warranty repair I'm guessing can cost what, $50.
The HD-668s are cheap enough that if damage, you can throw them away and ordering a new pair.

Beyerdynamic Dt770 are costing me 200 EUR and the hd668b are for 28 EUR big difference... yet you claim they are better..

can't wait to get them...
:D

one more thing..
http://www.thomann.de is this site good for buying such stuff....

I should correct what i said, the Superlux HD-668s are about 80% as good as the Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro 250-Ohm.
With the money you save buying the HD-668s, you can also get a headphone amplifier ($50 shipped from China).

i'll be betting an Asus Xonar sound card pretty soon for my PC will there still be neeed for an amp...

Depends on which Xonar you buy. $160-$200 is the price range for the Xonar DX2, Essence ST, Essence STX, have nice built headphone amplifiers,
you can upgrade the op-amps on the cards for even better sound.
You can plug any high end headphones (like 600-Ohm) straight in these cards, and it will sound great.
The low end Xonar DG also has a headphone amplifier, but limited to something like headphones up to 150-Ohms.
So you really do not need a separate amplifier for the above cards.

Asus Xonar DS, DX, D1 appear to not have built-in headphone amplifiers (but I'm still investigating).
But will work ok with any headphones under 150-Ohms. But a separate headphone amplifier will improve the headphone sound.
