I just got my K701s. I think that they sound absolutely brain-meltingly awesome! On the other hand, they are my first good 'phones (first over $100, in fact!), so in fairness I don't know how other brands compare.
The only negative I have found is an issue with comfort during very extended (over 1-1/2 hours) listening sessions.

No surprise, since they use the same drivers.

A couple hundred hours down the road, and they will be even more enjoyable..

Got my AKG K 272 HD last week and have about 100 hours of burn in and the bass is coming alive. I am loving them. Very happy with my AKG purchase.

^^^^^ Got the same, AKG K 272 HD.

They are changing FAST, and I read everywhere that they are well known for been flat, liveless and without bass....

I don't get it, I like them. But I will go to a meeting to meet other headfi gurus and will have the opportunity to listen to higher gear .... we will see if I will still like my 272 after that

Are the pads washable by the way ?

im not sure about them being washable. to clean them i just rub them against each other to take off any lint or anything like that...works pretty well

As I read this, I thought I'd try try removing the cushions with a slight counterclockwise twist, like I read about in another thread. They come off easily, and seem to be made of plastic, foam, and fabric. So I'd think they will be hand washable with something mild like Woolite, and a good rinse and air dry.

Edit: I didn't realise you were talking about another model, not the 701's I just got.
