Ok! Got it. Saw a post in page 98 showing the right way to do it.

Question. I've just looked for this pad in Amazon, but they look so different..

Are u sure you got the hd280 pad? :)

Tks a million

The pad are the replacement HM5 pads.

You'll have to purchase two because it's just 1 piece per order as indicated.

Edit: The headband pad is HD280's, not the ear pads.
HD280 earpads would probably give monstrous bass, perhaps competing with Beats and DT990pro, lol!

Thanks, deantonibrito!
I should have thought of trying HD280's padding, although the stuff I've got is from a decrepit old 280.

HD280 earpads render a sound like the HM5 pads, duh.  I don't know why I guessed that they would be bassy as heck.
So HM5 balance with Shure bass, a winning combo.  I want to try this again but with newer, better condition pads.
Bass is very deep and tight.  Soundstage is a little taller and the sound airier.
Edit: improved isolation, too.

Yes they are the Brainvawvz HM5 standard pads. They look thick, but I have to say they do squish very easily. If I was to choose again I would likely go for the new HM5 pads which have a thicker memory foam. They only cost a tiny bit more.
  Thanks, deantonibrito!

Those HD280 sure look like they fit well. Curious about the dimensions of these, also do they squish easily like the stock pads. I'm contemplating about trying another earpad set between these HD280's and the thicker memory foam HM5 pads. Although my current setup is still pretty good.

I recall my HD280's never staying on well because of a combination of the weight with the pads. They just never stuck to my head like other pleather pads would; there's just a weird slippery feeling about them.

I personally wouldn't get the thicker foam version simply because you'd lose too much bass and mids with the extra distance created from the driver to the ear. With the already low bass quantity of these headphones, you'd end up with a tinnier sound.

So, any HD598 cable would work with the K545s?

Yep. I use my HD598 cable when I'm at home instead of the stock AKG one.

Maybe its a better idea to eopn a new thread about it, but: Whats the best Earpad replacement for 545?

I've seen another user talking about http://www.amazon.com/Shure-HPAEC750-Replacement-Cushions-Headphones/dp/B00305H3VG

Shure pads, HM5 pads, or HD280 pads, it's ultimately a matter of taste.

Could anybody link me to a good HD598 (HD500 series) aftermarket cable, 5-6ft in length, to use with k545s? I found some interesting options, but they are from China and by the time they get here the k545's return window will have closed.

I've never seen one with that length.  What you would have to do is to reterminate a stock 598 cable ordered from Sennheiser.
Or see who carries a 2m Oyaide 598 cable in the US.

I plan on ordering from Sennheiser but I was wondering -- does anyone know if the B&W P7 cable works with the k545? I have the P7s on order and I know the headphone jack termination is 2.5mm.

  Ok, but..

Which of them goes beyond confort and give real quality improvement? (soundstage, etc)

all of them the same..?

All of them, but they have advantages and disadvantages over one another.  It could be argued that they are all just as good, I personally prefer Shure pads.  The next guy will tell you that HM5 or HD280 pads are better, and so forth.

Let me ask you this then, do you like having plenty of extra, tuneful bass?  Go for Shure pads.
Do you prefer an airier, less bassy sound?  HM5 pads or HD280 pads.
I don't want to be too specific on HM5 vs. HD280 as the HD280 pads that I have are not in the best condition.

HD280 pads are comfortable but not as squishy as the stock pads yet not as firm as the Shure pads.  HM5 pads aren't that much firmer than the stock pads.  All sport a better inner side to their earpads versus the stock pads, which means improved sound quality.  Tighter bass with clearer, more detailed subbass, better soundstaging, mildly better mids and highs.  In my experience, soft inner sides on ear pads just muddies the sound, wrinkling worsens things a bit more.

I posted this link two pages ago. It's a little shorter than what you'd want though.
