Hmm I think we can safely say that either the phones are being shipped out of order to retailers, or HeadRoom received at least 47 headphones in their first batch. Seems that the former option would be more likely. Actually now that I think about it, there is no marking on the outside of the box at all as to what number they might be, so its almost a given that the numbers are going to be somewhat random.

Do they leak sound as much as grados?

they leak a lot obviously since they are open headphones, but not as much as the grados which are as open as it gets really...

FYI

It certainly appears that the K501 pads fit on the 701’s and visa versa. The exception is that the 501’s are the same thickness around their entire diameter, whereas the 701’s are thicker on one side (the rear).

The velour of the 701’s is more comfortable now that it is Fall/Winter, but I think the cloth pads of the 501’s might be cooler come the dog days off summer.

It appears that the 601's pads don't vary the thickness the way the 701's do. So if owners of 501's desire velour pads the 601's pads would be a perfect replacement. I didn't swap both pads from the 501 to the 701, so I can't comment on the comfort of the 701's using the pads from the 501's.

I doubt that AKG is still securing the pads with the same mount as they were back in the K340 days. It would probably be just as easy to fit Beyer pads.

I believe that any AKG dealer can get replacement pads, although the 701/601 are so new that I doubt that replacement parts are available at this point.

Rhydon,
The K501/601/701 are mounted differently than the K340 pads. Your best bet is to buy the upcoming velour K271 pads that AKG designed for their upcoming K271/mic combo (HSD271):

The link references MikeAKGGuy's statement.

I called the lady and she said the earpads will be arriving soon and will fit the K240S and K271S (and therefore the K340 as well).
