I prefer any Lambda over the K340.
Tonaly the K340 is fine, a good amount of bass and clear trebble like it should be. The problem that annoys me is that the upper mids and trebble have a good amount of soundstage, but the lower mids and bass play in the center of your head. If you listen only to simple pop / rock then the K340 is one of the finest headphones you could get, but if you listen to music with spartial effects (classical / ambient / trance / folk) then you probably will want to throw it at the wall, as it will drive you nuts soon...

You just formulated what I did not like about my K340 very well, I think that is due to the strange reverberation in the low mids and bass.

Off topic:

I think you are the only one with Sennheiser Unipolar 2000 here, how does that sound compared to Lambda and K340?

That's crazy talk... I love spatial effects is what they do best. Oh well, to each his own.

Blasphemy! They obviously don't belong to our church! Just ignore them and maybe they'll go away.

I can't vote not having experience with the Stax, but I can photoshop.

A can with some reverb will play nice with music that is acoustically
dead but may be overkill with recordings that feature ambience.
It would be interesting to know what listeners musical preferences are.

How dare you call Steve's dual mono Darkvoices a "tin can amp"! You will hurt his feelings.

(p.s. I really like the K1000 directly from my weirdo tin can amp, more than my speaker amp, so how's them apples?

)

I have heard several different K340s, but on all of them the upper midrange / lower treble response is generally not to my liking. Sometimes they sound very good to me when the factors are just right, but I like the sound of the Lambda more often. Neither is one I would really consider my favourites of what I currently have, though.
