Don't forget that the k701/702 requires a decent amp.

My K 240 (which I believe uses the same drivers as the K 242, correct me if I'm wrong) needs and amp much more than my K 702 does. They have similar ohms ratings and the K 702 is more sensitive. Both of them benefit from an amp, but the cheaper model moreso. More expensive doesn't always mean more amp-dependent.

The bass of the K 240/240 MKII/242HD is very sloppy compared to the tight bass of the 701/702. The treble is crisper. There's SLIGHTLY less of that famous resonating mid range but you still get "the AKG sound". I think my 702s sound better in literally every way.

What tight Bass? The K701/2 provide no Bass to speak of...
Not to mention the plasticky quality of its High frequencies. Better, really? How exactly?
