I've used the k242hd which I love very much, too bad it's broke now (right speaker dead). thinking of buying a new pair of these.....or invest in a ''better'' headphone such as the k701?

Will it be an improvement coming from the k242hd to the k701? ......anyone used them both, what do you think does it have a huge difference?

I own both the 242HD and the k701.
The k701 has bigger soundstage, much more bigger and more clarity than the 242hd. But I find the 242hd better for rock music than the k701.  But overall the k701 is better than the 242hd.

K701 has greater soundstage, better details, better treble. but 242HD has better bass in my personal opinion :)
well, overall, K701 wins.

Ok so soundstage on the k701 is bigger (how much bigger if you had to put it in % ?)

Better details (again how much better in %)?

K242hd better bass, what's exactly the difference from the k701 bass?

I'm asking these question because I really wanna know if it's worth to pay the extra amount of money....

What source(s) do you plug your headphones into (like DAC & amp)?
What the best prices have you found for the K242HD & K701?

K 701/K 702 is a massive step up..

I had the K272HD and now have the K701, the K701 is truly a massive step up I am amazed it isn't usually mentioned among the best of lower Mid-Fi. Of course those stupid bumps may sway things a little.

The K701 will be much more resolving of fine details, but it's sound signature is completely different than the K240 series. They sound totally different.

The K240 is warm overall with a slight mid-bass hump. It's a little fuzzy, and forgiving of bad recordings. I find it a very pleasant, non-fatiguing headphone.

The K701 is slightly cold overall with very polite bass. It's analytical, and not at all forgiving of bad recordings. The K701 can be somewhat fatiguing, particularly the wonky/plasticy tonality of the treble. It will let you hear far more detail than the K240.

I don't think either one is necessarily a bad headphone, but they're very different. Don't let the fact that they're both AKG with similar superficial design fool you into thinking that they sound similar, or that the K701/K702/Q701/etc is a clear upgrade to the K240/K242HD/K240MKII/etc. The K701 is a better headphone overall, but not in every way, and maybe not for you. If you describe how you use your headphones and what genres you listen to, you might bet a recommendation that better suits your needs.

Of course those stupid bumps may sway things a little.

This is so strange. I never could understand why the bumps would be a problem, even with a fresh 3-mm-all-around haricut.

When mentioning the strenghts of the K 701, remember the awesome sound stage. Very few headphones can match it. Most sound downright claustrophobic in comparison.

Bass is the only problem. The K 701 will let you hear everything down to very low frequencies, but it will rarely provide a useful punch. This can get very annoying with dynamic music.

Thnx everyone, I will mostly use it to mix my beats (hip hop/rap/pop/rock), so bass is also very important (very very honest bass response)
How about the flatness is the K701 much flatter then the k242hd?

The bass of the K 240/240 MKII/242HD is very sloppy compared to the tight bass of the 701/702. The treble is crisper. There's SLIGHTLY less of that famous resonating mid range but you still get "the AKG sound". I think my 702s sound better in literally every way.
